Default Converting to Efi whilst retaining original air box?

I know converting the S1/S2 is not original, but I'm trying to keep mine looking as factory as possible. Has anyone kept the standard (or even another model Ford) airbox?

Really not a huge fan of cone filters.

Cheers, Ryan.

Could you not use air box from a late xr3i mk 4 cabriolet or something?

That is one of my plans, to somehow fit a Ford air box of some sort.

If your going efi then the manifold wont look original. Airbox wise i thought about the efi 3i set upbut remembered this is a plastic manifold over the rocker cover so no good. Surely you could use a diesel airbox etc and make up some standard looking pipework to the charge carrier. Like this

Can still use an mfi inlet manifold just weld on the fuel rail. Can you not use some sort of k&n panel filter within the airbox?

If you leave the metering unit sitting there but not connected (I'd remove the flap to stop it being a restriction) then it will pipe up same as normal.

I wasnt planning on keeping the metering head on the wing, not a bad idea right enough!

Im running the EFi inlet, I have a spare, so might look into butchering the two! Probably will use some sort of panel filter, I have a brand new Pipercross one here to be used on MFi until I decided to opt for EFi.

The diesel airbox is a good shout, will have to join the two like you say, not a big deal. More looking to see if there was a tried and tested option.

That airbox is on the wrong side and requires the plastic crossover, would need to be reversed to be good for me, but cheers for diggin that out!

Thanks for all the replies, some good ideas, hopefully put something together in the next few weeks!
