do you mean the little heat sheild with the 2 clips that clip to the metal oil return pipe?? and the actual sheild is made of some kind of hard fibre with bako foil on it

I got a couple a few years ago, the material tends to disintergate around the clips, then fall off

I have never suffered this problem since I bought a new style Ford starter which are smaller than the origionals so move away from the exhaust slightly...

I've got mine wrapped in Thermotech heat proof Wrap and lock wire to keep it in place. Been on there a couple of years and is subject to an arse-load of heat and is so far.
Last starter motor lasted about 8 or 9 years with same treatment, but the original lasted about 5 minutes without any wrapping or the shield

So deffo fit something soon.
Cheers.
