Default Loom questions - the first of many

Ok so the loom is out and I have began to clean/inspect etc before refit.

I will probably have a load of questions so Il keep them all in this. Maybe help to other PF'ers.

1) The altanator earth was pretty bad, looked oxidised. So I took off the connector, cut the two wires back about an inch and refitted the connector. Even the newly cut section looks bad. The copper just looks degraded. How hard is it to get new ones? Could I get one made up in a auto sparks?

2) What is this green wire? I think my alarm was connected to it. It appears to run into the loom and back out again? The strange thing was it was actually not in the orginal loom tape wrap but it was tapped to the loom in the engine bay?

Please and thanks
Simon

I may be wrong but I think the green wire is for the coil. That's where it runs to on mine if I remember rightly. As for the alternator wiring I'm sure a decent electrican could sort it if you can't replace it yourself.

pic2 is the coil suppressor, green wire most prob goes to the negative on the coil or tacho wiring.

Green wire is coil.
Other item is ballast resistor.

Alternator wire (its live not earth btw) - just get some decent core/gauge wire and make a replacement

thanks lads, is the green wire meant to outside of the main loom?

Yea I think I just make up my own alt wiring then. Use something like welding wiring which i think is the same as battery loom wire?

In the exact boat as you mate, my looms out, all tape removed. Iv completely separated the mfi management loom from the rest, my green coil wire was separate but iv just re-wrapped it together
