As above, oil temp/press. & boost, or AFR if you want to add that in as well, same for any turbo car really IMO.

Engine critical readings that would highlight a potentially fatal issue would probably be AFR, Fuel Pressure and Oil Pressure.

id say oil pressure, water temp and oil temp. afr is important though, a gauge is a good idea, arguably more than oil or water temp.

Oil pressure, back up oil pressure and AFR.

Personally i'd go (and have 2 of these already) oil pressure, volts (at fuel pump) and AFR

I'd suggest fuel pressure as number one, AFR number two and oil pressure number three. these to me are the ones that matter most on any turbo car, not just S2's on MFi.

What's the point of an oil pressure gauge? By the time you have seen it drop your engine is scrap
I have a dual oil pressure and temp, boost and AFR. Would like to invest in a knock sensor too.

Oil pressure light comes on at 7 psi iirc

Now, if you have a gauge that usually reads 40 psi when warm

And it's reading 25 then you know something is a miss before your engine dies.

but cross, a cvh owner will never see figures as high as those unless they are using 75/90 engine oil lol

Id say afr is more important than fuel pressure...
Oil temp and pressure also.

Volts is a good idea, esp from pump!

TBH on old cars like these you ideally want to be monitoring everything! lol
But, I had oil pressure and temperature, boost, AFR (well, a lean warning light) and water temp.

Thats a really good idea mate, like it.

I've heard a few people say the same but I disagree. My oil pressure gauge saved my new and pretty damn expensive engine. My turbo oil drain to sump split and dumped half a sump of oil over the drive, first I knew of it was a flickering gauge needle, killed the ignition straight away and saved a few grand.

For low-mid power I would suggest:

AFR, Oil pressure and boost.

For any decent power I would have:

AFR, EGT (surprised no one mentioned it), Boost, Oil temp (if on track) and knock (but decent knock gauge like phormula, none of that rubbish tripe you see on ebay.

EGT is an incredibly powerful gauge to have, it really does tell you a lot about whats going on, and is one of the few gauges that will give you enough notice to save an engine, especially if running high boost/power.

Rob,
Rob makes a very good point here, many things can be seen from EGT's... Mixture, timing, even detonation!
