Default Overheating

Was driving for 30 mins or so last nite and temperature gauge went sky high and could hear the water bubbling in the header tank. My fans weren't coming on, so would this be a problem with my fan switch? Or is is a thermostat fault?

Fan switch and check the loom as they can/will melt

Be the Fan switch,the plug on the fan switch and wiring to check..
