Default Escort RS Turbo S2 not starting after changing fuel filter

Hi,
I have done basic services (Oil, Oil Filter, Spark plug, dizzy cap and rotary arm) on my ERST S2 load of times without any issues, but today it was the service from HELL the additional item I changed was the fuel filter and now the car does not start! It seems like there is no fuel getting to the injectors.
I checked the following;
· I checked to see if fuel was coming into the new fuel filter by cracking the top banjo off and fuel came out.
· Next, I checked to see if fuel was getting to the injectors by cracking the 4 banjo nuts on the metering unit and then starting the car, again fuel came out
· Also, when I started the car the metering unit paddle goes down about 5mm.i also tried pumping the paddle whilst starting the car...nothing still wouldn’t start
· Then check if the fuel pump was priming, and it was (now I’m panicking )
· Finally I checked to see if I was getting a spark from the distributor to spark plugs and four where sparking as accepted
Is there air in the fuel system because I didn’t top up the fuel filter with fuel before replacing it?

I tried starting it for about a minute but the battery was giving up and it still wouldn't start!

Please help!

Thanks in advanced

Mission ford fair 2012!

Undo the cold start valve feed on the metering head (14mm spanner) crank the engine and catch surplus fuel in a cloth this will bleed the system

Don't pump the flap, hold it open 10-15mm as you crank it over, this'll flow fuel to the injectors.
