I'm 32 and i've had XR2's and a Mark 3 XR3 when i was 17.
Went to buy a series 1 in my early 20's with the money on me but the dealer had sold it...thats as near as i have come to getting one.
Moved house last year and HAD to have a garage purely to put a series 1 in it
All my mates in their 30's appreciate why they are the business..
My mate in his early 40's is a Lotus Sunbeam /RS2000 nut
I WILL definatley have a S1 before the summer
So if any of you fancy selling and making an old man happy let me know

I'm 22 bought my first RST when I was 18....I get stick all the time but at the end of the day I don't give a fuck.
It'll be worth the smae to me in 5 years time and its better than getting financed up to the eyeballs to buy a 1.2 Clio cos its 'New'

I'm 23, had my series 1 for 4 years and my 3door cossie for 2. ive had a nissan pulsar gti-r during that time and driven evo's scoobies etc but there's something about the old rs's that makes them feel more special than the jap stuff
I find the boy racers down in sunny devon where i live tend to go for the shit newer hatches like saxo's and 106's so that they can fit their girly blinkers to the back and naff bodykits to them![Wall](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/wall.gif)
They're like sheep following each other into crap french handbangs
The RS is a mans car

My age will get the average S1 driver age up a bit, but not in the UK though
I live in Holland and my age is 40.
Unfortunately I am the only one within the Dutch XRRS club that has a drivable S1,
about 3 or 4 people that I know of are restoring one, I know of the existence of in total 8 S1 in Holland.
Cheers, Dimitri

I am 21 and got my S2 4 months ago. To be honest nobody has called me a boy racer and most folk I speak to have nothing but respect for the car. I do get ripped about it at work cos they think it is a shed this is because I have had wee stupid problems.
Loving driving the car but it does leave u with hardly any money.

I'm 33 and take great pleasure in the knowledge that my 15.5 year old 'Dagenham dustbin' or 'Fix Or Repair Daily' has always pulled away from (with one exception) anything else on the road like they were parked or going backwards.
(this is apart from the caged, white 500+bhp Escort Cossie that pulled away from me when joining the M20 recently - a very rare and rather unpleasant and slightly humiliating experience and not one I would like to repeat - wish I had the cash for a big power Escort Cosworth or RS500
)
Still, she looks quite normal and wipes the floor with everything that doesn't wear a blue oval so

I pay for mine over 10 months on direct debit, so i'm skint every month until November, I get a couple of months' grace that Christmas uses up (and then some) and then it all starts all over again - sodding money pit. I wouldn't mind but I hardly ever use it - when i'm not at work or asleep, it's usually raining

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
![Default](https://passionford.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif)
Im 29 and have owned my S2 cab (bought as a XR3i!
) 10 years. Even after all that time every time I walk back to it in a car park I still think it looks great - there just is something about the look of the S2 that just looks so "right" to me.
In the 10 years Ive owned it Ive pretty much had everything to pieces, replaced every component on it and totally restored the bodywork, I shudder to think how many hours Ive spent lieing under the thing in the cold!. Like everybody else I get a great deal of grief from workmates about my car some names being "the red shed", "red skip with a taupaulin" , "one handled wheelbarrow" (reference to the mongoose!) etc
, but I have found (and Im sure this applies to a lot of us) that in fact secretly most people have a lot of respect for what we do - if it was a rusty heap the ribbing would be justified but my car is so mint, tastefully modified, and like new they just cant really find a fault to pick on it!. I also find it funny when I have to keep running my boss back to BMW to get loads of warrantly problems fixed on his brand new X3 in my 17 year old escort that has NEVER failed on me (touch wood!!!) - get a nice new car??? - nah, i'll skip that thanks!!
However, as others have mentioned, the one downside to these cars is their compatibility with "birds" - or at least I used to think so. Like most people Im a bit paranoid about my RS and so I dont like to take it anywhere where it could get nicked / damaged, also they can be uncomfortable for long journeys, buggers to park etc - all things you dont need on a stressful 1st date!!. Therefore Ive always used my shatty runabout metro in these situations and only "introduced" the escort later. When I was a bit younger this used to get me quite down and I really wondered if I should sell up and get something new and shiny like a BM to impress the birds but Ive come to the conclusion that if a car can really make or break it with a bird then shes not going to be the one for me anyway! .... maybe this is why im still single!!
Anyway, in summary I have to a agree with mitch :-
At the current rate of breaking, in 5 years time the only RSs left on the road will be our "preserved" examples and they will be a real rarity - on the roads where cars seem to more and more soulless and bland (to me) I'll still be loving my RS
(you know, actually, I think I might actually get buried in it!!
)

I first set eyes on a series 2 in 1990, bought one three years later after saving up, traded up for a '90 S2 in '95 and its still with me
, can't say that for any of the women though
. I'm 49 and I'd like to keep my car another 15 years, my daughters after one now
.
