They do - and its a quality gasket you wont have any problems - just make sure you choose a good engineering firm, they need to weld near the valve seats, they have to be careful not to deform the head. It will then need skimming, so hopefully you have some meat on the NMS head.

BTW the Accralits, I've heard mixed reviews. I went for fully skirted Arias to my spec - but the stuff on the American market is great value if you want the original bore - I'm not sure if they do oversize though??

ON-UJAH, im not really going to build that spec anyway...im after a saph cos soon so may be looking to sell the s1 or px it

i have accrallite pistons in my cvh and accrallite piston rings....it is now wih 0.5 overbore...also uprated big end and small end bearings and high pressure fuel pump and new crank. head wise i have a big valve head and piper 285 t2 cam...

with that spec i am hoping for 200 bhp plus but only at 15psi...am i a bit optimistic??

fernando kahn, you should be able to hit your propsed HP figure with that spec...just make sure its setup correctly and you should be seeing around 200hp...my cousin was doing 229hp at 16psi with a similar spec using a Pace intercooler (well over read but was near 200hp genuine for a fact) and that was with stage 3 turbo, stage 3 head, low comp'd, kent cvh35 etc

rudey...you can get 86mm pistons out there mate but they aint gonna be off the shelf pistons....gonna be made to you spec and expect to wait around 6-8weeks for them

A gear box that could cope with my power without turning to swarf after a few thousand miles (and not cost the same as an entire terrace in Bradford) and make the car relable enough for daily use would be nice

8 in 8 months, that's impressive, were they 2nd hand or recon, and how many miles were you doing?

In answer to your question, mine was producing 286 brake, and 301 lb ft originally.
Allegedly turned down to approx. a more sensible 260 now (don't know what torque) to improve tractability (she used to break traction effortlessy in 3rd in the dry) and prolong box life. Yeah right.

Would love to get her dyno tested to see what she currently makes at the wheels.

Current box doesn't leak a drop, is always on level, i've used Valvoline synthetic in it since build and recently replaced the oil.
Have done about 3K on it (gently whenever possible) 600 miles of which was a roundtrip to Newquay, so on motorway and no big standing starts.

Wasn't expecting it to last this long actually so every extra mile I get is a bonus.

Turbo ratios and my original diff (thanks christ it was salvageable - nothing else was) in a diesel casing - very slightly larger bearings, whether it makes any difference to longevity, I have no idea; but anything's worth a try.

Bearings are a little noisy already though.

Apparently it's the torque that kills them.

Pinion bearing is the culprit due to being subjected to such enormous loads from big power/torque engines that they just collapse/seize from the pressure and heat and the rest of the box follows suit because there is nothing to support the shaft correctly.

The small size and weak construction of the bearing is no help either - it was hardly designed for large power, the RST box is basically the same as any other MK IV box but with a slipper fitted - my car required a new replacement box from Ford under warranty when it was six months old and outputting standard power and torque - outstanding engineering, nice one Ford

The basic physical on/off nature of turbo power as opposed to aspirated power; in conjuntion with the way that helical gears have the tendency to transmit a large percentage of the load along the length of the shaft and into the end of the casing in a punching motion is just a recipe for disaster.

This is why Quaife's straight cut gear set can be so usefull for prolonging box life.

The energy is more or less 100% transmitted laterally from shaft to shaft thus aleviating the majority of the load on the inherrantly weak and undersized pinion bearing.

The down sides to this solution are that the gear set (and it is just that - you'll have to supply your own diff and casing etc. seperately) is horribly expensive, and you will of course have to carry ear plugs in the car from that point on

These two points are no longer a consideration for me as it is the only way I can get the peace of mind I need, so i'm now saving up for a Quaife build.

I just hope my current box lasts the distance because there's no way i'm dragging it out of the car again in the meantime unless there's something special ready to back in it's place

Cheers and all the best

lets see some pics of this beast dude sounds impressive
Evening Rudey, hope you're well.
Not sure why the 3i 'box would have lasted longer, probably just luck of the draw. I think they're identical apart from the slipper.
Were you running it with or without one?
If without, was the torquesteer less or more apparent? I've always wondered - I have always presumed that it would almost rip the wheel out of your hand, what with variations in road surface quality causing the power to swap from wheel to wheel, but i've never had the chance to find out.

BTW, never run mine up the Pod or any strip for that matter, so have'nt a clue what the 1/4 mile time is - always been too terrified of having to push the heavy old bitch the couple of dozen light year trip back home with another swarfed 'box

Might be taking her to Santa Pod this spring/summer for a couple of tentative runs to see what she can pull off if i'm brave enough - gonna have to try and keep it to a couple of runs. Don't wanna be walking home

Incidentally, with regards to pics of the old shed,
I don't actually know how to post images on a thread/topic, but a mate of mine and another PF member (jr)
posted some images of her on Saturday the 29th of Jan. in General Discussion to see if anyone remembered her from when she was featured in a few mags during the late 90s,
so if you search for that date in his posts there's several digital photos of her there looking filthy at work (she's black with black wheels)

Oh, by the way, if you've got the Performance Ford Top 100 cars (100th anniversary edition I think) issue from a year or so ago, there's a little pic of her in there at number 40.

That's the oil seperator Adam...
The three big hoses vent pressure/vapour into the catch tank and the small lower pipe returns condensed oil to the sump.

Quite a usefull minor way of having some secondary oil cooling aswell I have always thought - could be wrong though.
