rise in hp via boost + ignition issue.
if the boost is raised thus the engine is making more hp, could this show up any potentiol issue with the ignition, namely the dizzy ect. i ask as i recently upped the boost via bleed valve to test an ecu was chipped (it was) from 6psi to 10psi+. anyway, on a steady throttle, 60mph, little load there was a backfire.. only the once but i was gently accelerating to about 70. i have sinced refitted the amal. could this be the dizzy on its way out of potentioly a plug/lead issue. it was as if the ignition had been cut, the way idiots used to do get fake antilag type bang. i must say the car is a missile but im gentle now as the turbo wants rebuilding and a few other jobs want doing ie setting up properly ect cheers fellow ford fans.

well, the thing is im sure it went over 10psi, maybe even 15psi at one point but, im fairly sure the boost gauge is telling porkies. im aware of the setup scenario thats why ive hastily put the amal back on. i must add i was very conservative aswell, giving it a bit of well the odd time very breifly but doing so, no bother. it was at a steady cruising speed it backfired, once. crawled home after that just to be on safe side. i need to get a quality boost guage for peace of mind any way. looking at stack instruments, they look smart. thanks fore the feedback karlos

just been for a spin with the std setup (amal on, death valve off). seemed ok, back to 6psi as before. ive noticed a smell of unburnt fuel though, this was prior to fitting the death valve aswell btw. i cant say i noticed it with the b/vavle fitted but certainly did with the amal fitted back., its just dawned on me that the fuel maybe isnt getting combusted very well hence the rich smell. the tail pipe is black aswell. could a sensor be awry, or maybe a setup issue? such as overfuelling for the current (std) setup. i also thought about the dizzy/rotor or even plugs. when i started the car tonite it was reluctant initially. i noticed the relay was not priming every time i turned the ignition on. it normally starts straight away. would a relay go from not priming to priming when the car is running??? sorry to be a nuisance but its a learning curve, hope to get setup this week.

Could well be over fuelling for 6psi the metering units drift out of calibration quite easily these days, the misfire could be any of the things you mention mate plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, etc. and as for the fuel pump relay much like any electrical component it can fail or intermittently fail at any point, changing these things for new ones one at a time is the only real way to know what it is.
