Default converting a blacktop 1.8 foucs to turbocharged - ?? options

ok folks , looks like im getting a lil focus estate to runabout in ,

thinking of a nice lil low boost setup ( seems rude not to )

nothing flash , t3 , cheap cooler , ect ,

only issue i aint clued up in is electrics

so whats the eaisest way to convert the managment side to take the turbo application ?

obv its already efi ,is it just a simple ecu swap ??? , ive got a ofab ecu kicking about and could prob lay me hands on a 195 chip ,

so anyone got a list of poss other parts , and whats involved

not going big power lol

The easiest and cheapest way Id have said is with a decomp plate and focus rs manifold and suitable injectors and ecu. Dont know if the focus ecu can be mapped t run with a turbo. Seen loads done this way in the early years and at about 6psi run 220 bhp if i remeber right

As above, don't bother mate, save the money by using it as what it was intended for, a daily driver! And spend the rest on getting the Escort finished.

Don't think the normal Focus ECU can see inlet manifold pressure so when it comes on boost it won't be able to fuel for it.

But as said above, Decomp plate, injectors and ECU, maybe fuel pump. Pistons are the weak link in the 1.8 as they aren't the forged Mahle items as in the 2.0 but will take up to 200bhp and maybe a little more. Gearbox will also be begging for mercy too running boost as again it is a wanky IB5 and not the MTX as in the 2.0.

IMO stick a decent induction kit, full stainless, ST170 manifold and an evolution map on it and leave it. Will make it a lot more pokier and rev much better but unless you really want to turbo it, imo leave it. The 1.8 engine and box won't like a turbo unless you keep it very conservative.

your better off starting with the 2litre estate tbh mate.
has the better engine and gearbox to start with, i have a 2litre focus estate and its a great daily car- a small turbo conversion would really help it though! only area its lacking is brakes really, needs some st170 stoppers.

Yeah chris I agree , but the car in question is a tidy lil thing and well priced

Far cheaper to get a 2 ltr engine and box over another car lol

Save the money you'd spend on turbo'ing the focus and split it between parmo's and the mk3

If it is just for a runabout mate it really ain't worth it otherwise should've got a 1.8TDCi and remapped it so for the expense just leave it isn't worth it at all.
