ive just put a front mount grs intercooler on my s2, the thing is that the car now runs very hot, ive heard of problems before with the grs, ive got two 10" kenlowes on it.
The temperture gauge after around an hour of driving just sits below the red, it does fall the faster u go and sits around three quarters on the gauge, even when the fans are on it dont make much difference to the temperture, the fans are on the radiator by the way,and i have a cut-out front bumper
If i take the thermostat out it should run cooler but is it safe to do this, anyone else got the same problem?, dreading the summer!.

I know what you mean mate, Im dreading the summer as well ! I've got a norris motorsport intercooler which dosent allow any room for fans really. Karl did make me a small fan set up to go on top of the intercooler but you still have to have the interior heaters on full just to hold the temp. A few things you could try to reduce the temp are,
lower degree thermostat
cossie fans switch (cuts fans in earlier)
bonnet raisers
heat wrap the manifold
Its also a good idea to fully flush out the cooling system as it may be blocked or just have loads of crap in there. Replace with a good coolant and maybee some redline 'water wetter'.
Hope this helps, Duncan

I've got the GRS on mine as well & had the same problem as you as the engine was running a lot hotter, I've now taken out the Thermostat and the car does run a lot cooler, if you're stuck in traffic then yeah does get very warm again and does take an age to cool down with the fans on. Have to sit there & cook with the heaters on instead

buy a proper alloy rad.
you could add a small rad onto the coolant return from the turbo. ment to be pretty good and should take the edge of the hot water coming out of the turbo before you dump it back into the rad

Thermo Tech heat wrap is very good but not cheap.
And a big
to 220tc for mentioning Redline water wetter.
I mixed a whole bottle of it with 50/50 anti freeze and distilled water mix for my car and on average, in most conditions, she runs between 3 and 5 degrees (or more) cooler than before; with the added bonus of cooling down quicker once on the move again, i.e. hitting clear motorway after a snarl up in warm weather.
3 degrees may not sound like much but it can make a difference and every little counts when it comes to heat dissipation.
I tried the stuff because i'd heard it was good, I didn't have much dough at the time and I only wanted to chop my bumper out as a last resort.
I've got a standard rad, so obviously the old girl still gets a lot warmer than i'd like in the summer, so my next improvement will be an alloy Pace radiator. Very good, but horribly expensive, especially by the time it's fitted and i've got a nice new pair of fans aswell.
If that doesn't do it for summer motoring, then it'll have to be the chop for the bumper and a set of Morettes with the middle beam units removed.
Not a pretty solution I know, but effective and as last resorts go, I think i'll be able to live with it.
Flushing the cooling system is very worthwhile, but you have to do it thoroughly to be effective, and if you can afford it, fit a new rad aswell, you'd be amazed how inefficient an apparently perfect rad can be just because it's a few years old and partially blocked.
Give the Redline gear a try, it's great stuff, i'd recommend it to anyone. It's about 19 quid a bottle and I got mine from a Go-Kart prep specialist in West Kingsdown near Brands Hatch.
Hope you get something sorted for the warm weather.
Cheers and all the best.

your best to get a date from him when it will be ready, when i done that got it back within 2 weeks, hold him to it!.
Took mine to smarty tonight, engine out again, rear end crank didnt seal properly pissing out oil everywhere
, smartys gonna do that, another new sump gasket, oil pump gasket again, make a bracket for my grs as one snapped, fit a shock and put my old standard cam back in, then put the lump back in, within 2 days for £130!, not bad is it!

Im running a rad tec intercooler and i cant leave it on tick over cus it over heats!!
I spoke to wayne from pro alloy about fitting the fan on the rad to help keep it a little cooler!
grimmeRST, this might sound stupid but have you made sure that the fans are on blow?! if you have the waires wrong way round they will rotate the wrong way! (sorry if you already checked this).
The only thing with bonnet blocks, removing stat, low degree stat, cossie fan switch, manual fan switch....these are only temp mesures that wont make THE diff cus it will still over heat it will just take a little longer!
What WE need is a proper solution!
An so far ive never heard of a pro alloy over heating!...
