Hi people. I heard this years and years ago and ive always thought it to be true fact. I was told that Princess Diana was the only person in the world to own a factory red series 1 turbo. Dont know if this is true but thought id post on here and see if anyone else had heard this before. If she did i wonder where it is now? I will surely be mint and worth an absolute fortune.

They made a few red ones... Where they royalmail or datapost? Also apparently a merc grey one too!

It is black, it is with bonkers, I expect it is 'priceless' given the owner and the fact she is no longer with us, never heard about a grey one although I'm no officianrdo of the S1, Datapost did use red mk3s thought they were 16i's myself so would like to know more

The other ones were re-painted at the dealer weren't they?

Princess Di/The Bonkers Collection S1 is extra special because it was the only one to have 'Black' down as the colour on the VIN plate I.e. It left the factory in black and the others left the factory in white.

There were some red, and a grey one or two. I'm sure the exact numbers are known, but I don't know them!

I bet the black one would be worth a lot to the right person. Years back, a friend of the family had a lower spec MK3 Escort that was apparently owned by Princess Di before she had the S1. Apparently he held on to it and turned down some silly offers, trying to be greedy, but in the end interest tailed off and he didn't end up getting anymore big offers for it. Don't know what happened to it mind.

Bonkers will have paid big money i'm sure, and i think it would be worth more money again to a royal collector, than an RS fan..

As for the mercury grey, yes there was, it was repainted prior to being registered, i used to own the car, its now in scotland and owned by user Fraz on this board..

As said, it's part of Bonkers collection, it was black, opposed to the usual white, she also had some other changes such as the seats weren't the Recaros and I seem to remember the grill was different to.

It was given to her by Ford, she previously had a 1300 model.

She also had a Saph as well.

No-one knows whether she had two black cars...
There are only photos of her driving the car that Bonkers now owns. There are two other black cars that have strange history with them, one used to belong to another Royal and then the one Paulb has just bought. Early details aren't fully known on the other two but the owners have some history. These two were also painted by Ford as far as anyone knows but whether they left the production line in black cannot be confirmed like the Diana car that has Schwarz on the colour plate.

The red ones were re-sprayed for racing in Datapost colours. The Datapost press car is still around and was also resprayed the same red.
The mercury grey car is also still around. This car was produced in white, but sent back to be resprayed before the first owner took possession.

Don't know, possibly. One old magazine mentioned that two fleet street barons who had insisted on black RS Escorts since the 70's had paid extra...but unconfirmed whether they actually got them.

I read that as well, it's in a book about th RS marque by Graham Walton IIRC.

I recall hearing Mark didn't pay an extorsionate amount for Diana's car surprisingly.
