Thats a good question Geof! As it's just a normal Zetec block do I retro fit an silver top water pump and use a CVH alternator setup?

Didn't think the V4 could control VVT?... its pretty much a well packaged rip off megasquirt from what i've been told.

Just had a look at their pics, its definitely MS2 based, looks like they even use the same processor (can't quite read the model number). It looks like a well thought out package, better than megasquirt in terms of its connector etc, but with out the massive support of the MS forums, and a far higher price tag.

As Rick and Karlos say above you don't really want an on/off for the VVT.

Yea zetecs are stupid cheap! be interesting to see how well a 200bhp N/a mk4 goes, probably far more usable on the road than a 350bhp zetec turbo! Which i think is the price equivalent to jenveys and a v4.

The guys at mtech said in one of there threads they used v4 on a standard st170 with vvt on and made 198bhp with just some jenveys, and that was without adjusting the cam timing which was proved to gain upto 10bhp,

So for me it will be ok as I want 200bhp n/a and it's the cheapest option really

I would love to go turbo but will then need a big gearbox conversion ect but just can't put the money into that, so n/a is the way forward

Sounds good... if mtec can properly drive the vvt instead of just turning it on and off. You'll get peak power with the cams locked in position so their thread about max power doesn't say too much. 200bhp out of a n/a zetec with just throttle bodies is pretty cool though, and it'll sound superb.

Cheers Rob, don't have the money for a custom manifold right now though!

If V4 Mtech is on/off VVT then it will be utter shite as has been pointed out to me, swinging from full advance to full retard in an instant!

Rob,
well i will speak to them about that because if its just switching it on or off then i will just pay the extra Ł200 and emerald unless any off the megasquirts can do it.

a couple of people are trying to talk me in to a frs engine on ms or v4 but then i would need someone to wire it up and mapp it?

Mtech is an unlicensed MS rip off. It CANNOT control VVT properly.

I am working on a TB'd ST170 at the moment. That will have properly mapped VVT. Crazycage did the TB conversion, i'm just waiting for some MS3 bits to come from the states.

A 200bhp NA screamer will be loads of fun, nailing it round to 7,200rpm on the throttles will sound epic too!

Head, sump, and valve spring shims also sorted, thanks to Daveysaff for sorting the shims.

Just waiting on my inlet manifold...
Need to get gaskets and belts etc. but nearly there now!

You have it easy mate, we know what works so you don't have to make the same mistakes. Gary mentioned to me about your breather. My advice would be to keep the std setup. You would need one of Gary's exhaust manifolds which is more money - sure he would do you a deal - but you will have a much neater setup.

A much modified standard Zetec head flows 145 cfm@10"
I would love to see details of a 145 cfm @10" cvh head!
Very, very large inlet port size and probably a 45mm valve and oversize valve seat I imagine.
Pictures - please!!!!

Yeah it is a real help having people like yourself and Gary that have done it all before on hand to point me in the right direction!
I'd love a proper manifold but just dont have the extra cash needed Rick

I dont know if he gave up as such, but he said to me that the heads a prone to cracking and warping easily and that a black top head is much stronger when I spoke to him about it.

Just wanted to give my experiences here, I run an ST170 lump in my mk4 with throttle bodies and it made 193bhp at Sitech a couple of weeks ago.

Engine went in around April this year and the car has stood up to a lot of abuse since then, with only a driveshaft failing since then. It drove 800 miles to Ford Fair and back, been on the dyno twice, track night at Knockhill and on Sunday there I popped my 1/4 cherry and my best run was a 13.7 @ 102mph. And to top it all off, I've seen 41 mpg when sitting steady on the motorway

The car is as docile as my 1.25 zetec Fiesta when about the town but when you open it up its nothing short of scary in terms of noise and power! My VVT is on an on/off switch but to be honest its rarely off - its just for smoothing out the idle when stationary.

Its now off the road for a winter freshen up - looking at cams to crack the magic 200 and will be going back to Sitech to adjust the map to suit. I'm hoping cams, replacing my tired & crunchy RST box and better front tyres will get me into the low 13's or maybe even the 12s!

I bet thats alot of fun on the road... a 13.7 1/4 is pretty good!

I'd love a 200bhp NA screamer in a mk4 or an Orion...

Its Weber Alpha's own management Kev, when you buy the throttle bodies as a kit it comes with a pre mapped ecu which sits nicely in the glovebox.

Injectors came part of the kit mate - not sure of their flow rate or anything like that i'm afraid

Cheers for comments - first time doing 1/4 mile so dont have anything to compare it too but was happy with that! Ade managed a 14.8 when engine was in his car but that was with an open diff and slightly less power. My mate has a very similar spec'd car to mine apart from LSD box and his best was a 15 if i remember right so it shows the difference in the box....needless to say he is upgrading to a RST box over the winter!

Sorry to veer off topic but yes i agree the lsd makes 1 hell of a diff, i noticed it with my 130bhp na cvh... Launching and hard cornering the diff provides so much more grip!

43.5mm valves, 39mm ports, welded ports, welded short side radius, modified port roof (looks more like a downdraft port) etc

should be good for 500 bhp
