Default Replacing Rear Chassis Rails?

Anyone done this?

Mine have had some proper bodges done on them and after cutting it out im abit worried that this will be a week point now.

Can you still buy the double skinned ones from panel shops?

What they like to change? I see that the rear tie arm mounts weld to them. Will i need new ones to weld onto the chassis rails?

Cheers

hi mate ive got to do these on mine ive bought the complete rails not the skins as thats just covering old rust and will be the same in a few years. not got round to doing them yet as ive lost all motivation. looking at them youl have to drill them out from the top but i got told to measure the original ones before i remove them so the new ones are in the correct position. hope this helps.

I did mine a few years back. You need to drill out the spot welds from underneath, drill new holes in the replacement rails then mig them in place.Only cut out what is rotten. My repacement rails were around 3 feet long but only had 1&1/2 feet of rot to cut out.

I personally would suggest replacing the sections that are bad, so cut the rot out and slot in a cut down section from a whole leg.

That's what I was thinking of doing but how would you weld the inner leg to it's self as it would be boxed in?

Theres only one section thats double skinned, cut out the double skinned section and replace that part. Or, if you chassis leg has gone you will have a rusty line in the boot under the side trim panels, give it a gentle poke and you'll have a nice hole to weld through

Typical the bit that ive cut out is double skinned!! Ł90 a side is pricey but its to much hassle to fabricate it from scratch.
