Once the car is started do not let it idle! Either hold the revs at around 2500rpm for 20mins or better still drive the car for 20mins keeping the revs around that to run it in.
Set the vernier to 0 until you have a tuner set it up or you will have no idea if you've made or lost power without a dyno to show you the results.

setting the cam to 0 is pointless. Will probly make better power with a std cam if all your going to do is leave it at tdc.

You dont need a dyno to make the most of the cam just make sure its a full lift when timing it up. As said if you dont know how to.... get someone who does to fit the cam and setup the engine after with the correct settings.

As Karlos says don't let it idle... I did this and killed a cam a few hundred miles later, i gaveit 2,000rpm for 10mins. The next 1 i gave it 2,000rpm+ for 20-30mins - cams still fine 30k on!

Whats the cvh35 like for power delivery and bringing it on boost etc?

It's not pointless if you cant set it at full lift ie: you dont have a dial gauge.
Also depending what turbo, headwork, and other mods you have you may not want it at full lift, you may want a few degrees advance to help spool up a stage 3 T3 or T34 a bit earlier for example, setting it on a dyno is by far the best option

Intake at full lift is at 116 degrees ATDC for the CVH35 cam.

Of course one would have to know very accurately where TDC was first.
You will need a degree wheel on the crankshaft to do this. Aftermarket camshafts
may or may not be anywhere near "zero" advance with the standard or aftermarket pulleys.

Advancing a cam (or retarding) using the adjustable pulley is pointless unless done correctly with the degree wheel on the crank pulley.
I think Karlos explained this procedure on a thread a while ago.

Cheers.
