I ran my car without the front cover on the heater box when i fitted a strut brace and it was dangerous. Fumes were coming into the cab and putting me to sleep. took me about a week to work it out!

Be careful.

It won't do any cooling in the heaterbox cover. I was going to run it there but I was told it would be useless by people who had tried and tested many different ways. It needs air flow through it.

Have you checked your oil temps to see if you actually need to use it? I'm not hooking mine up until I've got it on track and seen what oil temps I get.

As above, if your not on track you should not need it, overcooling your oil is just as bad as it being too hot

if i get it thermostatically controlled then it will only kick in if i need it yeah?

ive got it so may aswell make use of it if i can
plus it looks good in the bay
dont see why it wouldnt get any cold air in the heater box as theres a grill in the bonnet right above it

The point made earlier is that the air should flow through it not over the top of it. Thats why air cooled rads and intercoolers sit at the front of the engine where they are directly in the airflow path.

Best place for it if u really need to fit it is the front of the car where the air can blow directly through it all over the surface.

If u mount it over the heater vent you will have hot air from the engine underneath and cold air blowing over the top which is not what you want for the cooler to work as it supposed to.

But if the oil never gets hot enough to open the thermostat it's a waste of money, thats why i haven't fitted mine yet. If it's not needed it will be sold.

Air will take the path of least resisitance, so unless the oil cooler is mounted so air can be forced through it it will simply flow over the top.
