Not overly modified, I know exactly what you mean about the poor STD ports, it was very Mildly cleaned, to smooth the casting marks as he was looking for 230bhp

It was on webber l8 ecu mapped by my dad, cracking engine actually

The problem I have with the STD cam is it makes for a engine that peaks very early

Ps remember this is a 310bhp turbo at 25 psi it is just forcing it through, where as my engine with mild port head and cam made 2 more bhp for 3 psi less boost

He was on the std s2 inlet

Hello J1mbo,

Sounds like a cool project.
Love to see pics of it someday.

Cheers

Thats not my engine there, mines on pectel t2 as said with ported head and cam etc, just putting steel rods, forged pistons, new inlet and a bigger cam in

I have a build thread on my escort in the rest room have a search if you fancy a look, build from the beginning where she was a STD 1.4 escort!

Yeah Christian said the Newmans off the shelf RST cam is a very similair profile to the Ford one, but as Jimbo says it peaks a bit early for big BHP, this of course can be helped by retarding the cam timing a few degree's.

No probably not, having similar characteristics does not mean adjusting the cam timing will yield the same results as fitting the Newman.

What do you guys mean by the cam "peaking too early" making max bhp too early?
What is an ideal cam for making smooth power with minimal lag over the ford item...?

Typically a laggy cam will make a higher final BHP on a single cam engine and a resposive cam will make less BHP, it's about where peak flow is.

Ah got ya, yes you can gain a few BHP with a vernier but at the cost of low down response of course.
