You've answered your own question there Joe lol
Whatever MSD are most familiar with, just call and ask Stu he'll point you in the right direction for sure!
Of course your budget will play a factor too.

Omex Joe. Fantasticly easy to set up and works brilliantly. I also have a base map that will start the car once fitted

MSD won't touch Pikeysquirt as then can't rely on the quality (if the ECU fails and destroys an engine, they don't want their map blaming for it).

This is my 3rd car with pikeysquirt and they all run fine! its the nugget wiring it up and mapping it that has a big part to play in how reliable it will be!

Funny how theres a question regarding management every week lol

Always the same out come as well, your always going to get people saying there systems good and others saying there bad or that they have had a bad experience.

As far as I'm aware
omex
gotech
megasquirt
pectel
cossie
Have all at some point made good reliable power on loads of cars ..... pick the right mapper/tuner and in most cases your going to get a good setup.

lol cars used to have carburetors lads, and still won races, calling megasquirt pikey when you personaly cant build one, wire it up and tune it and prehaps even fix it if it goes wrong (as all electronics can) is a bit of a poor comment, the pros of such a system are pretty much the cons too, as you need to be half intellegent and know what your doing in the first place to use it, but yes if you make a mistake it can go wrong, but then im sure many proffesional tuners have cooked expensive ecu's also, if you dont know about electronics, wiring or computers then go to a tuner and get them to do everything, and then get your wallet out. And if it goes wrong then take your car back and get your wallet out again, and if you change your spec get your wallet out, (you see where im going?) but if you are reasonable at electronics, wiring, electrical systems and engine tuning then use a system that is cheap and suits this, be it MS or similar diy ecu. Basically it comes down to ability, time and money, someone with MS will rarley get it proffesionaly tuned as that is not the type of person they would normally be. I hope this helps, thanks chaffe

I call it pikeysquirt because it's very cheap. It's the Aldi/LIDL ecu of the engine management world...

Exactly my point. George is pikey but they will still stop you getting arrested for indecent exposure and keep you warm.

A few might well be over priced but others won't be.

My point about MS is it is cheap and budget with crude yet effective abilities. More costly ECU's have a lot more accurate load sites and facilities/abilities. It is fine for people who like to tinker. In fact it's probably ideal for someone who likes to timker. My own ECU is massively more complicated than MS and is not as user friendly, not by a long way!

My other point about MSD not wanting to map it is that the build quality of the MS ECU's is always questionable and a dry soldered joint could fail at high load and destroy an engine. The fault may not be noticed until after another engine has been destroyed and another remap. By that time MSD have had their name dragged through forums and muddied by having their map slated as the cause of the engine dieing. They just want to keep their name away from that possibility.
