Default Standard T3 Manifold - Wrapped?

I've got a standard T3 manifold which i have exhaust wrapped, but some people tell me it will crack once wrapped. Mine glows red after even gentle driving and im worried it might crack...
Whats the opinions on this?
Is it normal to glow red?

Mine glows red after a spirted drive. T3 manifolds are cheap, wrap it and see what happens.

Mine cracked after it was wrapped. Whether it was a coincidence I don't know, but your not supposed to wrap cast.

I missed that, Karl. It shouldn't glow red after gentle driving. Points to a fueling or timing issue. Has it been set up?

Also Dave (twins) car isn't running big power, so he wouldn't see the same heat as some of us. Mine craked where the headers meet the the turbo flange.

When i say "Gentle Driving" i mean bringing it on boost at mid throttle/mid revs and then driving off-boost for 2-3miles after and pulling up and checking the manifold! Ive got the Idle CO set to around 3% but it needs a good set-up. I'm refraining from driving it hard until it's setup!
Maybe that'll cure my hesitation as it comes on Boost in 4th and 5th too!
My Inconel 4 branch on my NA CVH would glow after hard use once it was wrapped!

Glowing manifolds are bad news! Usually running really lean, get it seen to!

I had mine wrapped for a bit Roger, i wouldn't bother personally. it did f**k all to underbonnet temps and it wsa nigh on impossible to get to a couple of bolts when it came to the refitting of it. once it was gone it was good riddence.

I did wrap my downpipe until past the gearlinkage though and that helped ever so slightly imo. (for underbonnet temps)

I wrapped it to keep underbonnet temps down, but if its gna do more harm than good when i swap the turbo i'll unwrap it... Wrapping the whole system is on my to-do list, double on the downpipe!
Im just worried about it cracking as it glows red... Maybe i'll get it set-up and see how it goes!

it's the exhaust valves you need to worry about. cracked manifold is the least of your worries.

What happens to the exhaust valves? Arent they sodium filled to dissapate heat?

Does wrapping the manifold retain the heat in the valves... Won't the head still cool the valves?

I thought only Series One exhaust valves were sodium filled? Not Series Two.

I'm running 15psi making around 170bhp and my manifold has never changed colour lol, even after a spirited drive.

Get that car set up!

At 132bhp Sodium filled valves are utterly pointless, the chambers do not see temps any where near high enough! lol
I can only assume that as the S1 was more motorsport inspired they carried the valves over, remember they had them producing 250bhp+ for touring car racing back then.

Just better head transfer to the head, they are bastard expensive to get made, haven't found any off the shelf

Wouldn't have thought heat wrapping the manifold would have any effect on actual valve temperature tbh.

What, sodium filled valves or wrapping the exhaust?

Both are worth it, just not practical.
