Usually caused by fitting a large front mount intercooler as it holds off the safety catch.
I'd attach a short chain to the slam panel and the bonnet that can be clipped and unclipped when required.

No pics yet as I went up to the track anyway rather than feeling sorry for myself.
Have removed the bonnet though which is bent at both corners nearest the windscreen. The hinges are bent too and looks like the latch on the front panel has bent where it has pulled itself out from. The scuttle is bent and cracked on both sides where the hinges have come up.
The worst bit is my immaculate Ford heated screen now has a lovely crack in the middle from top to bottom and the MOT is due at the end of the month,

Sounds awful. I wondered if its where they're typical old cars and have like big gaps between bonnet and headlights so the wind can force its way in there to and force upwards together with the catches being old etc.

i know just when am getting somewhere. So if i fix it can i claim off insurance for a new ford heated screen and just fix bonnet myself. Think this time will use bonnet raisers and defo bonnet pins. Bezo where did you get the screen from and do you know anyone that can fit them if i don't go through insurance for it cos i would rather avoid that.

My car was being set up at TOTD last year when the stopped me on the way out, Chris said my bonnet looked slightly too high at the front so re adjusted it for me, i didn't take any notice at the time but he said bonnets flying open on rst's was pretty common. So maybe yours was sitting a bit high on the adjusters?
Happens on minis too thats why loads of people fit the leather straps
Rob,

yeah mate saw your comment in another thread about bonnet pins. Have sourced a good bonnet and vents and will be picking it up next week hopefully. Still need some hinges though and might add spacers too. What material should i get the pins in. Alloy sounds weak and i don't want something that's gonna corrode and look shit.

lads i have a very simple fix for the bonnet that involves no pins and drilling of nice looking bonnet etc.
A check strap which secures to the engine lifting eye and then to the bonnet catch.
It is sprung loaded so that it is easy to remove and open the bonnet. I have one on all my cars even one with bonnet catches.

Cheers I already had a search on their website but no results. Is that the red cabrio that was there a few months back or a different one. Might go pay a wee visit at the weekend.

I have hinges if you get stuck mate.
The check straps i sell are not on ebay or any other sites for sale as they are used by me for a job they were not ment for so no-one would use them like i do.
Lots of cars i have built in the last couple of years have them as an optional extra, once people see them on my car its a must for theirs.
If i had a decent phone id take a pic but smashed the screen

Nah there is a grey base model which is still quite complete and a hideous green/black soft top which is 75% burnt out - would get hinges off either i'd think
