Default brake servo and master cylinder upgrade

hi all,

I've currently upgraded my brakes to 4pots on 330m discs up front and 300s to go on the rear with abs removed, they problem i have is with the current standard servo , cylinder. they seem to be on their way out, signs of leaking etc. now my question is what would be an ideal upgrade? How hard are these pedal boxes to fit? Are they a worthwhile upgrade?

Cheers

Im also considering the Pedal box upgrade.

The one like Christian used on his s2, the gartrac one is £350+VAT as they have to be specially made, and would probably be the best option to take as uses up the least room, but there others out there such as a universal pedal box, or one found on compbrake which is listed for a series 2 escort.

http://compbrake.co.uk/shop/product_...cce878aaa841b0

this is as much info as i have really got at the moment mate, hope it helps out abit, im sure there are others that can shed some more light on this!

thank you .im open with all that i do! I didnt do anything to the pedal box just the servo and master cylinder and braced it up a tad to help stop it flexing.get a friend to push the brakes hard and have a look at the movement in the servo!

cheers for the replies so far guys,

ideally id prefer something which more or less just bolts on. With the compbrake one listed about what fab work i any would be required and what additional parts would be needed.

Would the standard brake bar still be of use?

Apologies for the basic questions still discovering new aspects of my car!

Thanks in advance

yes you still use standard brake bar with the compbrake one and the one christian had made for his can be bought of another source on here tony aka nutsrus or something like that and mine was pretty simple if you can weld and makes a big difference

yup, copper pipes can be used to go from the master cyl's to the calipers, however the drop pipes to the reservoirs are sold separately. alternatively the reservoirs can go straight onto the master cylinders.

This may be a stupid question but does it still have servo assistance yeah, there is still a pipe from it to the manifold?

there is no servo at all, due to having smaller piston master cylinders there is an increase in brake fluid pressure which eliminates the use of a servo, so there would no longer be a vacuum line from the manifold. hth

How much better does this actually feel than the stock setup then?
I run 300mm Focus ST up front and Cossie rears, could do with being able to turn the rears down a bit and gain better response all round too.

glad im not the only one here, should be handy if i run into trouble. i think im going to order the compbrake one. would the rear compensators get ditched? Does this pedal have a bias valve attached?

if your still running drums at the back id advise to keep the compensators. when you do a rear disc conversion, thats when you remove the compensators and have a brake pressure reducing valve to the rear or use the balance bar in the pedal box, as rear discs are more efficient and with the compensators will lock up under heavy braking. hth

i havent done the conversion yet so cant comment on what its like, but prices are all available on the compbrake website.

iirc Pedalbox is £140 including 0.65 m/c and 0.70 m/c, reservoirs are £6.50 each extra so would need two of them, and the drop pipes im not to sure on the price of them.

hth

so if i bought the pedal box and put the reservoirs directly on top of the master cylinders.. then i just have to join the existing brake line to it? are they easily adjusted? and also what size master cylinder is best? i have focus rs mk1 4pot brembo callipers and 2wd cossie rears..thanks

do the brake lines still operate as diagonals or is it one master cylinder for front and other for the rear?

I bought my braided lines as a kit already made but you can buy all the bits needed from Merlin motorsport. You wouldn't run a diaginal set up with a bias box as the master cylinders are different sizes. .625 for the fronts and .7 for the rears so they need re lining anyway. the reservoirs use M10 fittings.

The bias box doesn't need servo assistance which is also a bonus if your running anti lag

I've also put a Bias valve on the side for the rears incase I need to tweek the rear brakes in the wet etc as theres alot of braking force up the rear of mine and I don't want to keep adjusting the balence bar.

Looks that way yes, the smaller the MC the more pressure it will apply so 0.625 would be the one I'd go for.

sounds quite simple ! so basically you remove all brake lines and just start fresh and go straight from the master cylinders to the callipers.. are they easy to adjust?

I paid £100 for the lines ready made off someones car they were breaking and £140 for the pedal box, second hand but never used. I would go for a smaller cylinder for the rears like a .70
