Turbo damage

Just wondering what kind of play is acceptable on the turbo shaft. I'm guessing any up/down play means worn bearings but what about backwards/forwards? Also is there any other good places to check for damage?

In and out usually means a worn turbo,get someone too take a look mate

Unless it is a roller bearing turbo a little up/down play is perfectly normal. We always use CR turbos for any work.

I've not actually taken it out yet to have a look just wanted to know what to look for once i'd removed it.
Also what damage would a turbo do to an engine it it let go?
