bigger is not always better
core design and airflow to it are much more important

sorry to hijack the thread, but ive been looking at a few now, most would say go for grs, but would an airtec be suffice? Not really concerned with cost, just in desperate need and grs has a bit of a wait

I've had a grs and now have an airtec, i haven't run the car with it yet but i wouldn't exactly describe it as being heavy, a little more than the grs but not massively.

And yep bigger is not always better, the bigger the intercooler, and the longer the pipe work the greater the lag. This is one of the biggest arguments for a good charge cooler.

Ultimately an intercooler will give cooler act and the larger the intercooler (generally if well designed) should in theory give lower act's.

Rob,

*****EDIT******

What a total bellend, i actually have a radtec not an airtec so any thing above substitute airtec for radtec lol

GRS is brilliant mate, although there was a post on here a while ago saying there was a test done a while ago or something and the radtec performed slightly better than the grs,

Grs is probably better quality and at a very good price, but there won't be any massive difference in air temps.

Radtecs are spot on mate, TOTD done back to back testing aginst the GRS and both performed equally well!

I see around 35 running 27psi peek boost, obviously at stand still after a run that can creep up to near 60, but shouldnt be any where near that high when moving.

i run an airtech and it seems to do its job well compared to the old pace interwarmer i had. not a bad kit and simple to fit. only thing to consider is that the water temps are up as the rad is blocked by it.

Just to add to the mix....

I've been running a pro-alloy for three years and running temps have always been great. Had the pace 'interwarmer' previously and the pro-alloy one wipes the floor with it.

Mounted it with twin fans and no bumper cutting!

NMS double cossie cooler always performed well on mine, my ACT guage from rainbum fooked itself a few months in to use but as far as I remember I saw very little heat rise from the cooler, under very harsh driving (ring).

Firstly there is an optimum for everything. Either too big or too small is no good.
Too big and you will have lots of lag and lame throttle response. Too small is obviously high ACT temps.

From my experiance over the last 12years the GRS intercooler has always out performed every other intercooler i have used or worked with with genuine figures from diagnostics equipment and laptop etc.

Secondly the cheap ACT gauges available are not accurate at all. Many of my customers have them and when compared with real readings from a laptop the guage is more than 20 degree out at times. ? So anyone quoting figures without decent gauges is not worth bringing into the thread. Also i have noticed people guessing that their temps are better but how do you know. ?

Last but not least lets talk about weight of some intercoolers and the materials they are made from.

Regards

Closest log i can find is at 6850rpm in 5th and ACT was 41c, I think that's as high as I have ever seen it when actually moving.
