Default Wrong camshaft?

Bought a new/old stock AE camshaft to suit XR RS etc from '80 on thinking they were all the same.

However I have just tried fitting it and it does not go all the way in.

Upon further inspection the pulley end has a notch cut into it not a woodruff key thing sticking out which would suit my exisitng pulley.

So what the f have I actually bought and can I just replace the pulley, maybe get a vernier this time instead of replacing the cam?

Keys dont come with new cams. Just take the old one out of your current cam.

U learn something new ...etc

Where can I get a key from??

Don't have my old cam, the engine builder put it in the bin when they rebuilt the head weeks ago (I think anyway).

I do have a spare head c/w cam but would rather keep it as is.

Oh yeah my pulley has KA stamped on it is that right?

New cam is in anyway but a bit stiff near the pulley end I hope its not worn and will just run in when back together...fingers crossed!

Do ford not sell the key seperate? If not then what about getting one from a scrap yard if there is no other option, sayin that have you tried Burton Power?

totally agree, bought numerous cams in kits over the years, never had a key in one yet.

your engine builder should have known to remove the woodruff key anyway!
