Default Escort 1.8 to RS Turbo Converstion

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can give me a bit of advice??

I'm looking to put an RS Turbo engine into my 1.8 16v escort carbiolet and I'm wondering exactly what I need to do?

I am buying an RS Turbo so I will have the full car so is it just a matter of changing the loom and dropping the RS Turbo into mine? From what I've been told this is meant to drop straight in.

Exactly what I need to do would be useful as I will be looking to do this in a couple of weeks

Cheers

Was just planning on doing the straight swap for easiness mate. I'm buying the turbo for £800 which has cams and a new gearbox and clutch, runs sweet but the body is rotten. Not planning on spending much more than that just now.

is it easy enough to convert mine?

Cheers

depends on how far you want to take it, you would need to lower the compression, maybe a decomp plate a t3 turbo and exhaust and cheap megasquirt management if your on a really tight budget, untill you sort your proper engine, your gearbox would be better too

if its a mk4 turbo you cant use the box as mk5/6 escorts dont use cradles to start with.

you will need mk6 1.4 escort rear engine mount/power steering pump mount/alternator mount and belt, you can use the rs rad and intercooler and pipes some will need modding or extending etc.... mfi loom is just as easy to wire up as efi, its jus a pain to seperate the engine loom form the rest but plenty of guides on tinternet. Exhaust you can use the rs turbo intem but will need modding to go over the rear beam instead of under.

Think I will just stick with swapping the engines for less hassle lol

Take it if I just use the RS Turbo engine then use the box that comes with it?

Also is it difficult to change the looms over as thats the part I will probaby struggle with although my mates helping do the work

Cheers

as said above you wont be using the rst box unless you have it built into your gearbox case as the mounts are different. rember to keep the log book from the rs turbo come the MOT time

Mk4 ERST running gear should only be used in..... You guessed it. A Mk4 ERST.

If you want to use the engine in any other type car then EFi management is a must.
