when you say unplug the fuel ecu do you mean the black plug on the side of the metering unit???

Baiscally with this unplugged the pressure regulator returns to default values, SO NO BOOST, it ignores values given by the air and coolant temperature sensors, so i would start by replacing these and cleaning all electrical connections including earths then let us know if it has helped.

Rob,

PS
check the heated seat fuse mate in the fuse box.
wtf????

standard cvh yes can only pull away after a few mins once warm i drive it like it everyday if i plug everything as it should be and drive it down the road hard its ok at about 4 to 5 thousand revs clears out then when i change gear misses again but ticks over fine cant rev it up then but if i lean the mixture up starts to rev ok till all the fuel in metering head is gone then stalls and needs to be riched up to start again then problems all over again so drive with metering head plug off so its powerless was fine till i had engine out put back in then was never right since only done rings and shells didnt disturb anthing else

ok took my car to rolling road and no joy, couldn't even get it started, so i went home and bought another rs turbo, that was sat on a farm in a barn, took all the bits of it that could be the problem on mine, fitted them all today and she was perfect, didn't miss a beat, i had to push the accelerator a little but started and rev'd up fine, then i noticed the petrol was leaking from the filter (was pressure tested on rolling road) so i tightned it up and was busy tidying up for about 30 mins and tried to start again and that was it, wouldn't rev again and struggle to run at all, any ideas where im going wrong anyone? cheers
