Engine build, what bearings would you use? thoughts on ARP bolts too
Hi all,
Got my engine stripped today, luckily i can get away with a hone and crank polish.
What bearings do people recommend? ACL, PEC etc? i think i can get some mahle std piston rings which i would prefer to most other firms.
Cheers all, looking for std size mains and big end bearings, any one who has had good experiences with company's please let me know
Cheers
Rob,

Sorry mate, what do you mean by early engines? years wise
And do you know what the differences are?
And would any one recommend ARP main bolts? Its getting ARP con rod bolts.
Cheers

Pre 88 I think have the groove in the center of all the shells, where as post 88 only have it in one half or something like that, you'll know when you look at your old ones which it is!
I've always reused my main cap bolts, not heard of anyone having them fail.

mains don't tend to have issues as they're massive bolts with long threads.
con rods tend to need them though.

Shite, thanks for the heads up mate, and the groove goes all the way round
Any ideas on where to get the early main bearings then? take it the big end bearings are the same regardless of year?
Right so plan seems to be to reuse the main bolts and replace the rod bolts with ARP items.

Not discovered any difference in manufactures, but if you want the strongest type use copper/lead over aluminium/silicate, it carrys greater loads.
Simon.

Cheers mate, not sure which manufacturers supply the above, most seem to be lead-tin-coper with a nickel intermediate over copper, after reading shit lots of tech stuff clevite seem to make very good bearings (reliability/wear wise) but i doubt they supply for the cvh.
Not too bothered over having the very best of the best (so long as they are good) as i have always found good tolerances influence reliability more.
Cheers mate

Yea cheers mate, other things they sell are too expensive, but the bearings are much cheaper than the same items on ebay etc,

Hello mate,
I got all my stuff from Burtons in the end, but haven't built the engine yet. Couldn't get the HD versions but im sure the standard bearings will last well if fitted nicely and toleranced well.
Good luck
