just noticed this thread, my XR3i (mk4 on a C plate) has the rear exhaust hanger, the cut out on the rear panel and gutters that run the full length and round to the tailgate. I can't say i've noticed the spare wheel well being different but it could well be. I'm the third owner, before me it was my mate and before him was his elderly aunt so the car is a genuine XR3i shell.

pretty much the same as my 90-spec S2 shell apart from the different inner wings and it has bronze tint windows instead of green.

MK4 RST's have been out for years now and there appears to be some conflicting statements about real ones. For example like the gutters on the roof being different but then Kevin says his XR3i has the full gutters. There must be something on the RS Turbo's that separates it from the XR3i and something that cannot be replicated on a XR3i

ive been looking at base spec models and their roof gutters all look the same? is there any proper way to tell if its real shell or faked?

The roof gutters is only for s1. Tbh I'm gutted I gave that info away years ago to fast Ford and another mag that made it common knowledge and now everyone knows.

So I won't make the same mistake with the s2 sorry people.

Don't take this the wrong way, but why would you not want anyone to know? Have you been busy ringing car's for the last 25 years and don't want people to know how to spot them?! lol

EDIT: Just to say that is just a joke! But a vaild question none the less, I would want to help people buy a genuine one rather than keep that info to myself as I'm sure would everyone else?!

Have not read the old part of the thread but surely if one went to look at the car and all the glass and chassis plates matched to the book and the book was legit then chances are it genuine? Would of course need a sunroof?

There's a thread started by Matt tenpenny called buyers guide/advice. All the info is there. Versus helped me find the answers I needed.

Not if it's been 'rung' properly as everything could have been taken from the genuine RS (including the floor number) and put on a XR3i or similar

i beleive the battery tray is different in a base model to the s2, also xrs and base models dont have rear pop out window fixings, if you can take the b and c pillar plastics off and see if theres any additional holes for rear window brackets

It's a genuine question, why try and help the sale of cars that have had their identities changed by withholding very useful information from other forum members?

I'm not trying to bring your company name down, if that is what you think is happening then you have done it yourself... in this instance by boasting how you told Fast Ford and other magazines about the difference in S1 gutter length (implying you were the only person to ever have noticed this?! lol) and then saying you regretted it and wouldn't let people know how to tell a genuine S2.... What have you got to gain by keeping this to yourself? Why do you regret FF and the other mag publicising it?.... I was joking when I said perhaps you've been ringing cars, but going by your reaction maybe I was wrong?!

This is a forum to help people not hinder, boasting you know something but then saying you're keeping it to yourself makes you look like a tool! lol

I don't need to get in check (whatever that is supposed to mean), I just tell it how it is

Oh and starting your PM off to me this morning with "Are you some sort of cunt or what." will not help anything

The original poster of this thread had the piss taken out of him on another forum as he was a pain in the arse. He was jokingly told that his "red S2 Ford Escort RS Turbo" (as he always referred to it as) was in fact an XR3i ringer. It was just a joke to shut him up. It worked by getting him off that one site and onto here.

Then he sold it and came back again. Bugger.

Fast Ford this month has a s2 buyers guide. It does tell of a few differences between the xr and the rs , that aren't obvious. Worth a purchase if your looking to buy.
