Smile dane seeking more zvh knowlede

I've just bought a ZVH buttom end from James Porter of this site <-- thanks mate..

its a 2.1 with h beam rods from burton and 86mm accrilite forged pistons, which have been machioned top 7.8:1 i compression..

my plan for this engine are:

stage 3 cvh efi head with a newman cam and solid lifters

Hansen tubular manifold

gt 28 or gt 30 (what you reckon)?

xr3i inlet manifold (undtil now) considering a costum inlet manifold

got a omex 600 lying around that im going to fit

and of couse front mount IC

what power can i expect?? could 350bhp be reachable?

and what about my 2.5in moongoose.. it that up for the job or would it require a 3in exhaust?

cheers

if i recall if that was the bottom end from the purple flip paint rs he had, he was running a charge cooler instead of front mounded ic, and that car had some serious spec, and personaly id go for the gt28

Inlet will be the restriction there like you say, but yeah there's a spec there for 350hp IMO; solid 320-330 no problems. I'd personally go 3" bore but sure people will say it's not a must...

+1 for GT28 too

gingerturbo: yup, It is that engine he was so kindly so sell me

that +2 for the gt 28.. but wouldn't a gt30 be a lot less stressed? I mean, what is a gt28 good for... 380bhp?

im heavely considering a 3in bore exhasut..

what about injectors?

still 320-350bhp in a23year old car should be a lot of fun

After speaking to Simon at Sitech about turbos he said he had a car VERY similar spec to mine;
2.1 fully forged bottom end
Cosworth Managed
Big spec CVH head, Focus RS headgasket and Newman Cam
XR3 inlet
GRS Cooler

and it made 290BHP with a GT28RS Turbo.

I think 320 would be optimistic but not impossible.

I Think You'd be ok with greens TBH around 300. More than that Id be looking into Seimens injectors.

yeh gt30 prob will be a lot less stressed but if ya go for the charge cooler instead of a fm ic it wont be so harsh on the gt28, 3inch bore would be the best way to go, ya missed out on my one i sold it to that marylin for his s1

muz: I deffo want more than 300bhp.. I want the engine to make a much power as it can

gingerturbo: harsh on the gt28.. plz explain why a charge cooler would be a better chioce? I bet your engine was a bit more pricey than the one I bought from James

undtil now Im only seeking some knowlede.. I'll start buying the things I need over this summer

i'd be on the GT30, bit mor elag granted, but you'll make a bit more power on the same boost levels due to a better flowing exhaust housing as it's a tad bigger IIRC.

my engine was standard as i aint got the pockets for a 2.1 zvh, ive helped build a few 250bhp+ engines, which is where my little knowledge comes from,
i think ya would only benifit from a charge cooler if ya getting big power and using it daily as front mounted ic dont really work well stuck in traffic

Without a doubt. However over 300bhp IMO will be hard to get out of a ZVH. Every big power ZVH Ive seen (turboboss, ian howell) have used Siemens injectors IIRC. I'm guessing the superior spray pattern must help get the most out of the engine.

I've got a ZVH engine because I bought a ZVH engine already made. But if Im honest, if I was building from scratch I'd go full Zetec.

bang some astra vxr injectors in it and a gt2871 will see your power figure on the .86 housing

they fit straight in no mods at all and can pick them up on ebay around a ton for the 4 new and is what jamsport sells as uprated ones for 250 a set

nice to se a lot of different oppiniuns og experience...

It sound a bit wierd to me if a Zvh should struckle to make over 300bhp?

and of couse a full zetec would be to prefer, but I happend to live in a country were almost every tuning is ilegal.. so the benefit from a ZVH are that it pretty much looks like the standard engine... to the untrained eye..

ZVH can make over 300hp no problems...just becomes a bit of a beast to drive. It's too crude against a Zetec so people cap it off to a nice power curve, usually around 300hp, which if it's your daily is probably a good idea.

Maybe switchable boost on a GT30, because you could run up to 320-330hp no problems.

/\ imagine that on a well ported 16v head though, it would keep pulling way beyond where it is on there.
and i'm not saying that cause i think zetec turbo is better than a zvh, but it has more potential up the revs due to heads.

That's some sort of power Simon. How did it drive? I bet that cost ££££ to build though? The emphasis on ZVH being to keep costs down by reusing heads and manifolds from a CVH? Dont you prefer the ZVH I read?

i see where ya coming from, ya need it to look as stock as poss, so zvh would be the most sensible option, cos a think a zetec turbo with tubular manifold would look a bit out the ordinary

Okay built quite a few of these now.

It drove amazingly the GT30 starts to spool at about 3000 to 3500rpm pully very strongly all the way to 7500 red line.

The Full zetec gave a smoother power delivary but the ZVH makes you smile more.

There is quite a lot of porting work on the head.
They use standard valves
Standard valve springs and caps
Sitech/Newman cam
Newman solid followers
Forged bottom end (nothing fancy)
Standard exhaust manifold
Sitech inlet manifold
Ebay £100 intercooler
Sitech head gasket
Gotech managment
GT30

The power delivary showen on the graph is not a good represention as it was wheel spinning. I have a data log of the run and it shows the car on the rev limit 7500 but the dyno rollers only recorded 5600rpm.

sas:380bhp is quite a lot of power.. and if the gt30 sppo, up at roundish 3-3500rpm, then that deffo the choise of turbo for me.. did you have a rev limet at 7500rpm on a cvh head... can it cope with that... even with solid liftes?

sas, you write the ZVH will make you smile more.. its that because its a absolutly hysterical beast?

and have many psi/bar did you run with?

gingerturbo: I agree.. everyone will know, when the see a 16v head with tubular i a RS turbo, that its not the stock engine

I think the zvh will make you smile more benause of the engine layout and the way it delivers the torque, more of a puch in the seat sort of thing,,,,, i think

the zvh has a massive punch of torque, it's all about the power surge.
can't get enough of it, sadly you're at 60mph in no time, so not so easy to enjoy the power for long.

The power delivary can be easly moved, its down to which cam you use in relation to the turbo.

My very first ZVH took me to 166.6mph, so that kind of says that they do make power up the rev range.

Simon.

that is reassuring then, i need a stonger bottom end till i can chase those top speed figures though.
the power delivery as is pulls really hard and the only limiting factor is me on the pedal and speed limits, already been given a section 59 warning for wheelspinning in third, not even speeding at the time.
