you planning on doing this yourself, or getting somebody else to do the job?

the panel itself i think are about £10-15 for a pattern jobbie, not much at all. the dash does need to come out to do it safely and properly, plus remove the carpet and sound deadening below, i nearly torched my car by leaving some sound deadening stuck to the bulkhead when i did mine

No a m8 was going to do it as he is restoring his series 1's and is very handy with a welder lol, but he said the dash would definitly have to come out have alread stripped interior out and all the sound deadening so hopefully no fires

To do it properly you will have to take the dash out and carpet etc. The dash can be a bit of a bugger to get over the steering column but with a bit of wiggling will come out no probs!

How do you remove the tray itself?

I have the tiniest bit of surface rust under one corner and want to remove tray as i'm putting battery in the boot. Are there any spot welds to drill out?

Theres more than 6. Theres about 16 of the bloody things! Get a peice of rough emerery cloth or sand paper and rub it over the surface. Will expose the spot welds.

i counted 16 spotwelds, in groups of 2. i got halfway through the first with spot weld drill bit then it shat itself. repaired it and tried another and it shat itself again.

Got the grinder out and butchered with a cutting disc, was out half hour later.

You can see all the spot welds from under the bulkhead inside the car. I could only see the frontmost ones from the engine bay, even after sanding.

figured i might as well cut the lot out since there were the odd little pinprick hole where rust had got in and i plan on some subtle bay smoothing. Battery in the boot and flat panels ftw
