Now tonight i was sat in the car with the engine running and the music just died then when i tryed to put my light on the engine died i left it a few mins and tryed to strat it again and it started up fine drove half way up the road and it died on me again. wont start up agan now

any ideas ............. ????????

No, 70A is not a problem. The W terminal is used with dieselcars for the revcounter. You only need to connect the plug. Is your batterylight on when you turn the key? And does it go out when the car is running?

14 volt is perfect, even 14,5 volt is still good.
These (prince of darkness) Lucas type alternators are very sensitive (rectifiers break quite often) , it could be it is already broken.

spot on fella, the two reds join together on the b+ terminal and the blue wire goeas to the 'nothing' terminal.
i'd check the wired from alternator to the starter motor for corrossion too, they break down and cause charging issues.

Right so i put the alternator on today and tested the voltage on it. it was flickering between 13.95 and 14.15 on idol then after letting it idol for a few mins it started dropping to low 13s.

Could the battery be fooked or is the alternator still not working ?

This cold weather is really bad on cars , if the battery is low on water or charge it'll show so check the level in the battery if it's possible , if not then charge it up over nite and then get to a place who can check the battery .

A 70a or 55a altenator will make no difference at all but if it was me i'd keep the 70a on it

is the battery light on when the ignition is on, before you turn the key to start? if not check the blue wire connection near the starter motor, you might need to renew it, common problem

follow the blue wire from the altenator to the starter and you will find a male and female connector close to the starter, just renew that connection. if you battery light is not working the altenator wont charge

It's at the starter end mate, there is a male and a female connection that's the bit you need to replace

Just take the wire of off the alternator and ground it. Your batterylight should light up. If not your bulb could be broken, something could still be wrong with your wiring or maybe a fuse....
