No, 70A is not a problem. The W terminal is used with dieselcars for the revcounter. You only need to connect the plug. Is your batterylight on when you turn the key? And does it go out when the car is running?
14 volt is perfect, even 14,5 volt is still good.
These (prince of darkness) Lucas type alternators are very sensitive (rectifiers break quite often) , it could be it is already broken.
