is there ment to be a starter heat shield? Hot start problem!
When the cars cold it starts straight away, but after a drive when i stop and turn it off it wont start! it will turn over once or twice really slowly, then it will jsut stop. however when it gets cold again it starts first time?
the manifold and turbo e.t.c are all standard, is there ment to be a heat shield on the starter motor? is it likely to be the starter getting cooked? or is there maybe something else? bad earth or something?
this is my first rs turbo so dont really know where to start!

new starter or recon one and a heat sheild is needed
there are 2 types of heat shield, one which fits to the bottom of the starter and one which sits above the starter and clips onto the turbo oil return pipe this is the one you need

Starter will get its earth by a cable attached to one of the starter mounting screws and the bodyshell or battery. When this cable is broken/missing, the starter gets its earth via the engine. When the engine is getting hot, it looses its ability to transfer electricity, the electrical resistance gets higher when the engine gets warmer...

excellent, so if i make a new starter earth going from one off the mounting bolts (goes through the box i presume?) to the body then it should be ok?
why would it be the stem seals? :S

Had the same problem with my car. Didn't have any earth cable after relocating the battery.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
this might be a bit ott but this is what i did i brought a new loom http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-escor...item5649aa746b
new starter and i wrapped it in heat wrap and i also wrapped my exhaust down pipe i don't have any probs with starting when hot any more.
oh by the way if you heat wrap your exhaust the heat wrap will smoke for till after you have done a few runs.
The metal heat shields are hard to get.
