People will argue this till their blue in the face! lol
Some say Cone, others drilled box with panel, others panel with end of box cut off, etc... etc...
IMO on these cars it makes no meassurable difference, but in theory...... K&N Panel filter with the end of the box choped to allow greater flow is the best.

These were tested with Performance Ford years ago. K&N Panel Filter came out best (no surprise to me). Some drilling of the air box on the correct side may help.

It's the fact that the engine bay is small and the air filter is close to the turbo. If you are more concerned with looks than performance, go for a K&N 57i, but it'll cost you power compared to my other suggestion.

k&n panel is generally the best for most things imo.

maybe not for maximum power (in extreme cases) but price, 1000000 mile warrenty, 50000 miles before you have to service it.

would get my vote...

I've got the K&N 57i fitted to mine along with the cold air feed pipe and it works fine for me.

Have you compared this with the standard filter for power and ACT's?

standard filters or airboxes ar better than cone filters due to them not suffereing heat soak as much.
however if space is tight there is sometimes no alternative, this is one problem on my xr2 turbo, something that wasn't an issue on 3i cab turbo i had and air box did have slightly lower act's compared with cone filter i tried on it.

Not really Chris I'm not too bothered about weather it will make an extra 1 or 2bhp as it's something I'm not gonna notice I only bought it because it looks better than the standard air box and it's alot smaller plus it comes with the cold air feed pipe and my ACT's have always been fine with no problems so far.

i've often thought of cutting through innerwing and sticking it under the arch with a shield to protect from dirt.
more hassle than i can be arsed with though.
