Default rear strut brace affecting geometry?

bit of a random 1, but any advice would be great

when my car was in the air, bare shell spec, we fitted a piece of tubing as a rear strut brace, as shown below:

tubing was cut to length and knocked into place and welded up

now, upon messing with various lowering springs, im noticing my car doesnt seem to want to sit as low as it used to, and it doesnt seem to have as much negative camber (i think thats right, tops of the wheels dont sit in like / \ as they used to if u get me )

just seems to me the tops of the wheels sit further out than they used to, n theres defo a change in camber, and it really doesnt seem to want to sit as low as it used to.

only changes to the rear end are a rear disc conversion (which wil of course push the wheels out slightly but wnt change the camber surely), and then this strut brace

maybe fitting it with the bare shell on axle stands has meant the struts arent settling into the natural position? maybe im completely wrong, maybe im mental, i dont know. does anybody have input?

before you go chopping stuff about, is the interior back in yet?

My friend denis' RST sat about 10mm higher at least with no back seats and parcel shelf in, it was weird. he put the interior in the boot, along with his sub box and spare wheel, rolled it arouind abit and it was noticeably lower, but not exactly as it was before.

i would've thought however that the struts would move slightly with the weight of the shell on them, how much though ive no idea.

Remember that the reason you brace the rear is to take the 'floppiness' out of it.

The camber obviously directly relates to the ride-height, so if the car isn't so low, it won't have so much camber. Although the rear interior doesnt appear to weigh much, the ride height of mine came up as I stripped it. You'll just need to lower the car more, it's that simple.

Firstly though, with the car on its wheels, roll it backwards and forwards, then measure the height at the same point both sides to check that its level. As long as it is, down you go with some lower springs.

are you running coilovers or standard springs? if the car is just sat around and not ready to drive yet,i think you should let the car settle or push it around and bump the body shell up and down as like you would like checking suspension,it should soon settle down

to simulate all the extra weight associated with an interior, i put a compressor, a big cast iron vice, and 2 trolley jacks in the boot, and it still sits high

my main worry is that with 40mm lowering springs that have 2 full coils missing, it should sit stupid low, but it doesnt. and even dropped so it hits the bump stops, the tyres are stil only just getting near the level of the arch. and at this bump stop level, im stil only just gettin to the point of getting anything near negative camber, so physically no way i can go lower, so no way of inducing negative camber.

iv figured the only way to be sure is to measure another mk4 from strut top to strut top, and various measurements from around this point, and compare this to mine. if my strut tops are significantly further part, i would think its safe to say my strut brace was naively made too long and fitted to a flexing shell on axle stands

and yes, my tailgate is fitted complete with glass, and my spare wheel is in place etc.
