I removed mine then cleaned away the rust with krust, then used normal houshold bathroom silicone and screwed it back down tight, job sorted

hope this helps mate

p.s. if you do this be carefull with the wires as they are very short and tight and can be broken easily

Which side is it leaking? Normally the battery tray on the other side to the fuse board that leaks in which case it's new battery tray time. Had mine all redone a couple of years back, can barely tell it was ever done. Silicone is hardly the long term answer to rust lol, better to get it cut out and replaced now in my opinion.

Do you have a sunroof?

In a really nasty way ford designed the sunroof rails to drain away into the sills. This is why '80s fords have such bad rust problems with inner and outer sills. Could be that it is running in to the car through a hole in the inner sill.

There is a common mod done to mk2 fiestas where a hole is drilled in the outer sill and the sunroof drain pipes are then extended to poke through the hole.

i woudered were the water in the boot was coming from!!

ill have to check the sun roof drains does anyone know if they drain to the front or the rear?? i thaught it might have been the winscreen were the water was coming in as i had an issue with it leaking from the top behined the clock a while back.

the driest part of my car is the engine bay i think lol!

Yes they drain to the front, if you remove the speaker pods you'll see a dark grey pipe running behind there.

try looking at back lights m8 and spoiler plus number plate.what i would do is get a hose and take the shelf out then get some one to spray the car while sit in the back a see where its coming from....

on my old s1 the footwell was soaking, I removed all the carpets and underlay and eventually sourced it to a leak coming from the bottom corner of the windowscree passernger side.

Some silicone sealant and job done.

If you can, get as much trim out as possible, dry it all out then run a hose of the car until you can see the water inside and trace it back.

well, i have come to conclusion my car should have been a swimming pool!! lol

put a hose on it today and the gaskets are knackerd on the back lights! - set orded of fleebay tonight

checked behined the speaker pods found the tube, but it all seams dry. so ive put a drain hule in the sill under were abouts the end of the pipe rests, but im not cofident,

done the fuse box so i know thats not leaking.

dryed all the carpets out, went for a drive and its swimming again!! lol
hopefully getting a winscreen on insurance in the next few days so see if that stops it.

i hope the scuttle panel dosent fall apart when they take it out!!

my passenger footwell has a round puddle dead in the middle it after it rains. really wet aswell. my battery tray is fine lifted all carpet/sound deadening and its all good. could a door sill be doing this? its just that its bang in the middle and the carpet is dry around it. the sunroof is fine aswell not rusting or leaking. cheers

Are you sure the heater matrix isnt leaking or the pipes to it loose and the water soaking through the sponge into the car.

yeah i get that as well, typical ford, battery tray starting to rott like a bastard. plenty of spray grease seems to help it, water can't get at the metal.

puddles everywhere ive fixed them all and had them all!

1, Windscreen seals,
2, Fuse box,
3, Battery tray,
4, Door seals,
5, Sunroof drains, FRONT AND BACK,
6, Rear light seals,
7, Boot seal,
8, Rear window seals

and a very random ones:

9, Door pin plungers
10, Seal where the wires come in from the doors.

think thats all of them!

keep them dry people i know first hand what wet carpets will do to your floors and inner sills! put it this way if you leave it long enough you can run along the road without leaving the car, shouting yabbadabbadoo while doing so is optional of course

i done, light seals, and also where the car had a restoration the welders missed where the rear light housing panel meets the rear wings and there were 2 holes the size of a peanut, it was running down the boot and into the car via these holes, im still getting wet rear floor pans but ive traced it to the rear window seals.

i vax my car out when it rains and leaves it dry, but im getting tired of it, so my full remedy for this is either garage or just buy a car cover and cover it up each night !!!

made me angy after a £14,000 restoration !!

i leaning more towards getting a car cover !

Upon even further inspection as its raining today, ive also found that my boot seel is old and not grabbing the lips properly, water is running down the boot seal and entering just above where the rear light are on the inside, i also traced it to adding to the leak from the rear light gaskets, so ill still be getting a car cover but ALSO A NEW SEAL FOR A BOOT FROM FORD.
