Default ignition timing

just woudered what sort of advance people are running with there ignition timing on modified engines? and basic engine spec thanks

IIRC 8degrees BTDC on MFI is rule of thumb, checked with a timing light, the engine up to temp, and the vacuum hose off the ECU and blocked off (inlet side, not ECU).

thought it was 12 degrees btdc for standard

Yeah it is for a standard car, for engines running more than standard boost I would go with 8degree BTDC, until I had it RR'd.
Sorry should have specified I was talking bout modded engine lol

surely the more fuel and air the more advance you would need as there is more to burn?

The exact opposite mate, the more fuel and air there is the more it is compressed the faster and hotter it will burn
