How can I check if my gearbox if defo and LSD box? I know you can tell by jacking up the car, but I cant remember what happens next! LOL Is it if both wheels off the ground and I turn one the other shouldnt turn?

If it's a VC LSD then jack up the car turn a wheel the other should turn in the opposite direction.

 

incorrect my chubby friend you turn a wheel and the opposite whell should turn in the same direction

 

Is the VC LSD from the Series 2 gearbox?

 

Yes i want to check if the box has a standard viscus LSD S2 RST box. So if i turn one wheel with the car jacked up the other should turn same direction? I knew it was something like that!

yup, as above, alternatively, you could just put it in first, accelerate, let go of the steering wheel and if the car crabs to the kerb, its lsd

 

do a massive burnout!!!

 

knock it into a 'private' roundabout a bit brisc and se if one wheel spins up on exit.

 

I realised afterwards LOL

 

burnout and get m8's to take note if both or one wheel is spinning.

 

no if the wheel turns the opposite it is LSD not the same way had the same prob and i to thought it was the same way .... i had a xr3 box in my s1 turbo that went the same way put LSD in and drives like a turbo

Just jack up any old car that defo dosnt have one, like a Fiesta, 106, Saxo, Mondeo, any Escort other than a RS, blah, blah, blah... See what that does and then your should do the opposite

 

Mine is LSD and both wheels turn the same way.

 

i vote do a burnout and look at the rubber left on the ground

 

I would do the burn out thing etc but the car dont run the box in question is in a XR2i running FRST set up the bloke i got it from didnt have a clue about anything and said he had a feeling the bloke he got it off said it had an ERST box in it with a slipper, i just got the car as a donor for my projet fez.When jcked up and turn a wheel the other one doesnt do anything , i have check this on my mk 5 Zetec S and the same happens! so no slipper in the 2i either!

I remember the burnouts i used to do my my ERST they were wicked both wheels lit right up!

take the shafts out and look thru the diff,
bar across = std
hole = lsd

 

I'm going to do this today, got an old XR2i in the garage so that won't have an LSD.

 

ok soz just been on the phone the wheels shoud spin the same way ..had this prob wiv mine i thought it was opposite way but it turns out it is the same way soz to the peeps that said this my mate has 2 s1 and thay and mine now spin the same way
