Dump Valve or not?
Hiya all, i'm new to owning a RST, my fella use to have one a while ago, and he told me about the whole dump valve or not route, he said that it should open a whole can of worms
many people think that its wrong and it may cause problems, others say its just crap.
mine's got one fitted running 20 PSI, and it seems to idle fine.
My boyfriend had one running approx 18 PSI, both with a standard, and a piper cam, and he said the idle on his was always lumpy with either.
what do you reckon?

Lumpy idle?
Only if it aint dual piston version
And TBH i would alway's have one,Removes the air and prevent's or help's stop damage to the turbo
Turbo or dump valve????
IMO anyway i am probably wrong lmao.
More trouble like what mate???^^^^I am intrested

id be interested too.i was under the impression that dump valves were a good mod,as said they reduce stress on the turbo when changing gear.i have a bailey one on mine and it sounds mint

They can damage the turbo if running high boost (apparently) but as christian says they cause more problems than cure them, and it would have been running lumpy from the piper cam. i have had a forge one, and a bailey one and out of the 2 the car ran slightly better with the forge one on but now i am back to no dump valve at all and it runs sweet.

Not really. I have a old CCC magazine buried somewhere where they datalogged a test on the rollers with a dump valve and a recirculating one. Dump valve fitted it took longer to get back on boost than a stock setup.
I'm for stock recirculating setup but with a top quality metal valve.

The thing is they remove stress on the turbo Giving it an easy life (Easier)
But MFI no flutter unless ragging the shit outta her

Of course mate it would take longer to get back on boost,Why because ur loosing the air built up and it has to start again from nothing,Where as the re circ or not having one keep's the air in the engine .

If it's pre-turbo it will be exactly the same as any other dump valve, which is where I thought it went?!
lol
Well it's the truth!

he means that with either cam fitted it was lumpy.
the valve he had was a spec r one, which was a old diaphram type, (this was around 8 years ago) with the up rated spring to run higher boost.
it would idle between 600 and 1200, hot or cold.
he thought it must of been an air leak in the valve or the line, one other thing, he didn't take the valve off the same air line as the valve.
if these new fangled piston valves are good, thats sweet by me.....but chatter sounds good too
