Default Dump Valve or not?

Hiya all, i'm new to owning a RST, my fella use to have one a while ago, and he told me about the whole dump valve or not route, he said that it should open a whole can of worms

many people think that its wrong and it may cause problems, others say its just crap.

mine's got one fitted running 20 PSI, and it seems to idle fine.
My boyfriend had one running approx 18 PSI, both with a standard, and a piper cam, and he said the idle on his was always lumpy with either.

what do you reckon?

No dump valve. My 350bhp RST never ran one. They cause more problems than they cure.

They can damage the turbo if running high boost (apparently) but as christian says they cause more problems than cure them, and it would have been running lumpy from the piper cam. i have had a forge one, and a bailey one and out of the 2 the car ran slightly better with the forge one on but now i am back to no dump valve at all and it runs sweet.

Not really. I have a old CCC magazine buried somewhere where they datalogged a test on the rollers with a dump valve and a recirculating one. Dump valve fitted it took longer to get back on boost than a stock setup.

I'm for stock recirculating setup but with a top quality metal valve.

Recirculating dump valve, where does that send the charge back into, pre-turbo or post-turbo?
If it's pre-turbo it will be exactly the same as any other dump valve, which is where I thought it went?!

he means that with either cam fitted it was lumpy.
the valve he had was a spec r one, which was a old diaphram type, (this was around 8 years ago) with the up rated spring to run higher boost.
it would idle between 600 and 1200, hot or cold.

he thought it must of been an air leak in the valve or the line, one other thing, he didn't take the valve off the same air line as the valve.

if these new fangled piston valves are good, thats sweet by me.....but chatter sounds good too

aaahh, its begining to come back to him, its been around 8 years since he had his last one, and before that he had a S1, though only for a while.

so did they fit both systems to both cars, or just the Ke to the S2's ?

IIRC K Jet is for the likes of XR3i's, S1 and S2 RST's both use the KE Jet.
