Default Oil light on/off at times although i KNOW the oil is correct

Noticed that only sometimes my oil light will flash on but it seems to only do it when im at a standardstill and if i rev the car a bit or depress clutch it will go out, there is oil in the car as i checked it over and over to make sure this was the case.

common fault?!? any ideas?

I'd stick a oil pressure guage on it mate,as if its an oil pump on the way out it will cost you lots!!For now,I'd check the wiring from the switch, and also throw in a new oil pressure switch, just to rule out the simple replaceable stuff.Regards,Micky

Fairly common on CVH's, worn big ends/crank/worn oil pump causes it, it will gradually get worse...could try a new pressure switch but doubt it will cure it. obviously by revving it/depressing the clutch the revs rise slightly increasing oil pressure therefore putting out the light. could try thickre oil, but it will only mask the problem for a while.

Mate the oil light is not just only to check if there's enough oil in the car but also the pressure, so probably your oilpressure is getting low!

Agree 100%, most likely big ends worn or oil pump. You can of course check the wiring and switch but i doubt it's them, most probably engine rebuild time i'm afraid

Bare minimum you'd get away with is crank regrind/polish set of shells, and an oil pump!

Also crap/old oil could be causing this so I would personally change the oil and filter and also the switch first just to make sure. I've also had this when a head gasket went on one

If it's only doing it under those conditions I personally wouldn't do a thing if power etc is good.

well if you read my other thread you will know by know that something went wrong with the engine last night. I found a hose that was extremely loose on the back of the engine and i wonder if this was causing low oil pressure.

The rad was also running dry and caused the engine to overheat like mad but again it was running fine and i didnt know if it was the gauge being faulty or the car.

A core plug has popped out the side of the engine underneath the cam pulley and the water just pisses out of that - iv been told to put the core plug back in and see if the engine will run again but after what you lot have said im wondering if its worth it? I might just buy the engine i have lined up that was recently rebuilt instead of risking trying to do a half repair job only to have to pull the engine to pieces again and rebuild the bottom end!

Sounds like it popped the core plug from the pressure, must of been pretty hot, so could have warped the head, you wouldnt know until you fixed the core plug and run it...but if its got oil pressure problems they are never going to go away, only worsen....so i'd either rebuild that engine or buy another one (if its got some sort of warranty)

cheers.
