Default Make my car handle!!!

Hi there,

The car has Avo front coil overs with i think koni rear shocks and some stiffer lower springs (unknown make). After the car has stopped torque steering all over the place, if at speed becomes (or feels) really unstable..

There is LOADS of neg camber, is there any thing i can do about this? front and back.

Its also on 17's at the moment but going back to the original wheels.

Cheers for all your help

Just looked through the paper work and the car has a sport revolution kit, so front coil overs and gas rear shocks. All Avo.

What ever kit it had on would still give neg camber though... depending on how low. Mixing brands wouldn't really matter front to back so long as the spring rates and dampers were chosen well. Are there adjustable bottom arms i can get?

But cheers for the advice

Rob,

We have adjustable TCA's available for the front that will pull back in your negative camber, but if your swapping back down to 15's you may be better of waiting until fitted.

After that re check tracking and toe settings.

Rears are a little more expensive to sort out properly, but a cheap bodge is to elongate the hole in the body on the inner wishbone mounting points to pull the wishbone in/out.

as said, adjustable track control arms.
cost a few quid, but you'll have better handling and save tyres scrubbing on inside edge only.

if its all over the place and low, try toeing it in a small ammount, it should help straight line stability. i switched from standard wheels to slightly wider 15" compomitive th's, with a lower offset, the extra width at the rear i felt made the rear more stable when cornering. possible just a confidance thing. i lowered mine on spax adjustable dampers and springs, probably lowered it too much though, i think raising it up will help with crashiness and bump steer. just my two cents.

a good start would be getting the wheels on you want, then going to get the tracking set up correctly, if you go to a good place you will get a readout of what all 4 wheels are doin then you will have a much better starting place

And i think the worst thing in mk4 escort handling is that crappy feel steering. Too slow and awful in all way.

steering isn't that bad! try driving a corolla/micra, basically jap rubbish!
more toe out would give a better turn in, and polybush everything!

Lowered cars also usually have far too much rear toe that make the car feel sluggish.

dragging the back around with you! toe in on the rear will also make it inclined to understeer, and vice versa
