Oh dear. Welcome to my world. Sorry to piss on your chips fella, you'll not slow it down much.

Mine started out as literally ONE rust bubble, I tried to clean it up and it fell through leaving me with a hole in my roof. From there it was severely downhill. See my resto thread (latter pages) for details of what happened and how I fixed it!!

Yes very common for the roof to rust behind the rear of the sunroof, and right at the back by the tailgate

My RST is fairly solid, this roof rot is quite isolated, but its enough to finish an RST off in my opinion.

Jacko is a good bet to sort it if you need someone, but it's not for the faint-hearted.

Don't be under ANY illusion, your roof WILL look like mine did on the inside, if not worse.

Amen to that motherfucker. Wise words Jacko.

It sucks, but rusty-roof syndrome is just one of a whole list of RST pain-in-the-fucking-ass traits.

Put it this way, if you go for a drive in an ERST and do not get a rust shower (especially when the sunroof is on vent or open), something is definately wrong! Or should I say right

I think amongst other reasons the biggest bit of blame is down to the fact the drain holes get blocked so the roof area can remain damp and never really dry.

I had 2 bubbles on my roof, went to a few bodyshops who said they could sand down and repaint without having a look inside roof, eveyone of them said the rust would be back in a matter of months,in the end i went to a restoration company who lead filled and waxoiled it,that was 18 months ago and no rust has appeared so far.It will come back in time, would any company remake new skins as there is a need for them, surley they would sell?

your best bet is to have another roof accid dipped and then fitted to your car with proper treatment it will be like new again and your best bet

Dont weaken the shell by cutting the roof off just get it to a decent bodyshop and get them to cut all the rot out and weld in new metal

it will still come back if you do it properly it will be exactly the same as it was new ie spot welded and brazed corners
