Default ditching oil to water cooler

hi all,
in the progress of rebuilding my escort rs I thought that it might be a good idea to ditch the oil to water cooler behind the filterhousing, in order to get the water temperatures down, which I expect to be running high just as most rst's do. in place of the oil to water cooler I could run a mocal (or something similar) oil to air cooler.
would this make the water temperature to run lower or would it not make the temperature to drop at all?
cheers

Wouldn't do anything for water temps in my opinion.

I always thought it worked as a water warmer as well as an oil cooler? Heats the water quicker for the in car heating, clearing windscreen, getting car up to temp quicker etc on cold days?

i took mine off when one of the hose "unions" rusted off, ran much cooler with it off, unless it was blocked?

do you need to have one? or if you take it off do you need to replace it with something else? ive taken mine off but ive not had car running yet so dont want to cause problems if it aint fitted!

It's a form of oil cooler. Won't do any damage taking it off, if you use the car hard might be an idea to fit a sandwich plate and oil coooler instead though.
