single pass goes through the core once, twin pass goes through it twice, i'd have thought it gives cooler air?

yeah it does. On the S2 the standard single pass core is vertical, as are the double capacity ones. the front mounts have horizontal cores.

nms do a reverse charge carrier, maybe thats what its for? i.e big single pass intercoolers.

You loose more of your boost pressure with a double pass but the air is colder, depending on size, but with single pass pressure is retained but not cooled as much again depending on size.

im sorry but the only way IMO you are going to loose boost pressure is if you have a leak.

loosely speaking within the twin pass cooler the boost has to traval through the bottom half of the cooler through one of the end tanks then back through the top half of the cooler hence the term "twin pass"

where a single pass cooler the boost goes from the bottom to the top or from left to right (like rs500 coolers) and only has to travle through the cooler once.
