It might be a vauxhall engine but as a standard engine its pretty quick.

lets be honest here bud, a 400bhp let with a f28/f20 (i.e. not a bc) gearbox is gonna be better than any cvh and bc gearbox you dare to get near it with!!!

know what your saying and I used to think the same way. Fact is though, weve got a shit gearbox to deal with and any kind of upgrade requires serious mods that most people dont want to entertain. The CVH is hardly renowned for giving out big reliable power. Even in its best its 350bhp and thats probably pushing every part and certainly isnt going to be the most reliable car going. If your gonna go through the arse ache of fabricating new mounts to get anywhere near a reliable gearbox Id be going full hog and putting a new engine and box in that will last. Only got to look at the corsa in pictures/video forum to see a 'standard'ish LET engine giving out some serious power that would be an awesome power plant in a s2. I love the series 2, had mine for 9 years now, but if I had my time again Id be heading down a similar path to the OP, i.e. full transplant. Look at TOTB today, how many escort turbos are their? Answer is none, cos as soon as the car (S2) gets put under any kind of heat thats it, something will always let go, this has been proven time and time again. I wish it wasnt the case but it is.
Back on topic, keep us up to date with the build Carl, gonna be intresting

steven im soon to be running full zetec turbo with a getrag 6 speed gearbox which so far have been proven bullet proof for 500hp+,please note im not arguing or trying to kick up a fuss and respect the fact every 1 is different, seems people are loosing faith in the ford badge and modified ford products, its good that others are thinking outside the box and i respect that, good luck with the project

Im just throwing an idea around at the moment guys. I had a s2 many years ago which i loved but endless problems forced me to get rid, thing is that the only reason i had problems is because it was stood for 5 years doing nothing and a mechanic i had do the work on it let all the crap from the petrol tank run through the fuel system and needed it all changing. On the bright side if i didnt do the work myself i would never of caught the bug to mess with cars.An escort cossie would be my ultimate car but no way im gonna afford that so maybe a mk5 could be one to play with?

look at the bulkhead, battery tray area, rear chassis rails roof and floor pans,if you can lift the carpets also check front panel at the bottom crossmember for any serious rot oh and the fues box panel, sills and arches...your looking at best part of a 20yr old shell so take care

the escort rs mark is a pure classic, mainly these days for pure enthusiasts ive seen your resto thread and is a real credit to you steven i really like it. i think its getting time to do so much work on such cars, you should bring it out as is and enjoy it for now,yes there old but thats the hole appeal aint it?

Depends on what the engine has had done to it,mileage etc etc.Ł500 sounds quite cheap though.Mine has 2 chips virtually brand new K16 turbo, frontera intercooler, greddy boost controller,4bar fpr f28 gearbox and few other bits.I couldnt put a price on mine but i wouldnt sell for less than Ł1700.The turbo cost nearly Ł900 about 5 months ago.

personally i think if your gonna change the engine in your car,at least keep it in the same marque.and like said above using the getrag gbox, but is pricey,is a good mod,ppl are losing faith in the rs,they can be reliable,it depends on the owner,if they love it,spend money on it etc or just rag it and drive it as it is

Ive decided im going to do a mk5 escort cosworth replica.I know there is a lot of people that dont think too much on the replicas out there but its a project im going to have a go at.Im still going for the LET engine in it.Have started looking for a shell as a donor but is proving a little tricky at the moment so when things get moving ill start another thread. Does anyone know who i can pm to change my username please.
