Fuel accumulator?

Fuel accumulator?
Right bit confused,when i got my combi it had an XR2 engine in it but now iv put a turbo lump in it,iv got my fuel pump,fuel filter,metering unit and all associated injector pipes and i just though the pump went straight to the filter then into the metering unit and out to the injectors but i was lookin through my manual yesterday to double check something and it says something about a fuel accumulator? is this a part of the metering unit or is it a seperat thing that im going to need to get hold of?
