Unhappy overheating!!!!

hi, i have just brought my first escort rs turbo 1990, i brought the car and it was running with no thermostat, so i fitted one and since then the car has been overheating, and also i am getting alot of white smoke and a smell of oil.. any ideas???? thanks

head gasket when they start to go and over heat a quick fix (to sell the car) is to remove the stat to stop this but only a matter of time befor they go big time imo

the person who i brought the car off said he had the headgasket done in may, thanks

welcome to the world of rs turbos mate,it sounds like the head gasget.

make sure you use a genuine ford when changing it

I take it he never had a receipt to prove it was done.

dead handy cost off under Ł100 for gasgets, but get the head checked when its off.

i coudnt see any m8, when i was driving it today it was kicking white smoke out especially when it was ticking over and i reved it

took me 2 hours to do buddy, its not hard at all. the biggest wait is getting the head skimmed/pressure tested ect. i already had a diff head to put on so it wasnt needed for me.

as said before tho i belive, the best route is to use a ford head gasket and arp bolts.
