they did stu but a fwd should have them the other way round, strut coming from cross member to tca your kit is probably of a cossy or rwd escort hence they have them pointing backwards but gearbox mounts get in way on mk4 escort so people do next best thing and mount them backwards as you have

 

Backwards mounting is a tension strut then, not something i'd put on a FWD car with forward mounted ARB.
