Default releasing Tie rod ball joint?

As above really wots the best way to release the tie rod ball joint from the steering arm without a ball joint extractor?
It won't budge with a hammer and don't really want to damage the tie rod.

if its the track-rod end, hold one hammer on the one side of the "knuckle arm" and hit the opposte side with another hammer. if yr lucky it will come 1st time with a good sharp shot.

Definately lever it out as opposed to hitting it.....a nice long pry bar or similar will do it chris, i found when i took mine out last time that turning the wheel helped, was looser at a certain point. Is a bit of a fiddly job, then when it's out you wonder what the fuss was about lol

lock the wheel so as to expose the ball joint as much as possible, loosen bolt on joint, and strike the stub axle, dont touch the ball joint or track rod with anything that could damage it. good solid blows and it will pop up alright
