F**k it! I'm going EFI and Megasquirt!!

If you convert yours and have it started and running in one day Karlos, you can do mine the next day
I might go down this route one day, but knowing my funds and luck of late, that day will be a long way away!
Get the pics as a step by step innit... That'd help loads of people out

Will do!
Yeah for sure!
Cheers, it's the only way forward really!

Hi Karlos and nice to read you are upgrading to efi system.
Couple of things that crossed my mind:
1. I think you get ms-2 assembled kit cheapest from http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...lete-c-25.html
2. Do not pay anything for software, you can get all from internet as it is open source.
3. Use complete edis4 package (loom, sensor, flywheel, edis4 unit, coil etc) , cannot go wrong as jesset said.
4. I Use 380cc injectors (bosch EV-6 type) Buy set of new injectors. Used injectors are sometimes dirty and do not produce that kind of spray what you want.
I have now driven 2 summer with ms-efi and no any faults and car has been very very realiable.
PS. Programmable EFI is fist thing to do for RST.

Yeah but pain in the arse to fit! Gearbox out and then a air gun to crack the bolts off!
So 311cc to small, 475cc to big, what do you recommend? Surely if I use 475cc the injector duty will just be quite small, is that a problem? In fact how can cossie ones be too small?? They run on a 2.0L producing what... 220bhp out the factory?

Anyhow, you already bought the injector. I think you can get it to idle ok with good emissions, just needs more delicate tuning.
Not really to Karlos, but all others considering going MS:
When buying 500Ł megasquirts from the internet, don't forget that the basic version can be had for under 100Ł as a DIY version. I think some of the original spirit of MS is lost when things are just bought ready.

I would therefore suggest buying an MS with coil pack drivers built in.

The cossie 16V engine is much more efficient than the average cvh turbo and can make more bhp per cc/min of fuel. Also, do you settle for 220bhp? I also thinik that cossie has a standard fuel pressure of 3.5 bar, however the injectors are rated to 311cc/min at 3.0bar. Keep in mind that the cvh efi fuel pressure regulator is rated to 2.x bar and has next to zero adjustability.

The thing with buying a pre assmbled MS from a recomended supplier is that you know it is right which leaves you to concentrate on the install and mapping. It means that you can quickly rule it out of any fault finding you might have to do. They guy i buy mine from wrote most of the extra code (which helps when you want some product suport) and also soak tests everything before it goes.
If you have a long term project building it yourself is a great way to learn. If you want to be back on the road in 4 weeks as Karlo does i'd go pre built every time.

I've used the EDIS package for lots of MS installs. It is very reliable and easy to get working but does have one downside. It prevents you from using the the soft and then hard spark cut rev limiter. This means you have to use fuel cut instead which might not be ideal on a highly tuned turbo engine.
I would therefore suggest buying an MS with coil pack drivers built in.

Simple answer to wanting to run cossie injectors is to run the cossie FPR as well. I've ran them on everything, even turbo charged bikes.

or would this one be better as it can do Distributor based for now and then go coil pack later?

Scrap yard it is! So the second package is the one to go for then? Do I need any of the available options at the bottom of that page?
Thanks for all your help Doug!
One of these?
.
How does it fit onto my cam/head? I guess it doesnt fit onto my cam does it, and just drill and tap some threads in the head for fittment?
So MS drives this instead of going through the EDIS control unit if I were using EDIS, which will give me a better rev limiter? I agree cutting the fuel is risky, opportunity to Det!

Wasted spark. A coil is fired for two cylinders but only one cylinder will be on the power stroke.
The mondeo coilpacks are two coils.
The EDIS unit is a coil pack driver that ford used before they incorporated it directly in the ecu. The ecu sends it a PIP and SAW signal to tell it when to fire.
You can buy an MS with 2 built in coil pack drivers that will fire the mondeo coilpack directly. Saves having to use all the EDIS setup.

MS2-Extra
Direct Coil Drive 4 cylinder Setup : Ł370
This setup has 2 spark outputs, perfect for running a wasted spark 4 cylinder engine with coilpacks. This is also suitable for use with a single coil (distributor based setup) when wanting to upgrade your engine to wasted spark at a later date, please let me know if this is the case. It is an ideal system for Distributorless setups that have a crank sensor and wheel. There are certain conditions that the signal has to give, please contact me with more details of your setup. Note: This ECU now has the Tacho output fitted as standard!
This comes with all of the standard options for Ł370 plus Ł10 postage to the UK or Ł15 Outside of the UK

Think that coilpackin top pic is off a slightly later mondy but it will work
The ones i have used are off a mk1/2 zetec mondy or escort. The second pic looks like the one.
You can fit the coilpack any where. There were efi cvhs that had similar coilpacks. Fiesta RS turbo i expect.
As long as you have long enough leads / stiff enough mounts you can mount the coil pack on the bulk head or iner wing.

So do I just blank off the end of the head where the dizzy used to be? Will be a neater job if I can fit the coil pack to the end of the head.

karlos,be nice to see how you finally sort it in the end m8,as im looking at going efi,but although im being swayed towards emerald lol
still be interesting to see how you get it done yourself, saving yourself a few quids always good.

Wish I had the budget to do the same mate! hope it all goes well. I agree with the above that you should do a thread with the progress of it. Might come in handy for those of us that one day might get the moolah to do the same !

It's only cost me around Ł500 which isnt big money of you own/run a RS, beleive me I am skint right now so i'm not spending willy nilly! lol
But I can recoup around half that by selling all the MFI bit's i'll no longer need, and that makes it a lot more affordable!

Thats a copy of Megasquirt isnt it? I remember the guy getting a slating on here sometime back, not that is any reason to not buy from them, lots of people get slated on here! lol
How did you get that deal, cos the price listed for that spec is a lot higher?
Did it come with a loom and software etc?

Matt has taken over now and has sorted the place out. They were selling them on e-bay and i won it and asked them to add the bits on. It comes with the loom and cd with the wiring diagrams on and mapping softwear.

You not converted it yet Karlos? One day you said.. Jeez! Hurry up, I want mine doing
Good to see how much knowledge you've picked up tho in such a short space of time mate! Always better to go in with some knowledge than go in all horns blazing and come out with more problematic debt!!!
I like the way you work
